The effectiveness of orally delivered probiotics in treating gastrointestinal diseases is restricted by inadequate gut retention. In this study, we present a magnetically controlled strategy for probiotic delivery, which enables controlled accumulation and residence of probiotics in the intestine. The magnetically controlled probiotic is established by attaching amino-modified iron oxide (FeO-NH NPs) to polydopamine-coated GG (LGG@P) through electrostatic self-assembly and named as LGG@P@FeO.

The reported pesticide loading methods include one-step self-assembly encapsulation and two-step absorption loading, but the controllable release and insecticidal efficacy of these two methods have been infrequently evaluated. Herein, the typical diamide insecticide cyantraniliprole (CTP) was employed as the model pesticide.

One conceptual answer to this question is by an ancient transcription factor regulating ciliary gene expression in both uni- and multicellular organisms, but examples of such transcription factors in eukaryotes are lacking. Previously, we showed that an ancient transcription factor X chromosome-associated protein 5 (Xap5) is required for flagellar assembly in . Here, we show that Xap5 and Xap5-like (Xap5l) are two conserved pairs of antagonistic transcription regulators that control ciliary transcriptional programs during spermatogenesis.

A highly sensitive sensor is constructed based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) with heavily rare-earth-doped upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) as energy donors and polydopamine nanoparticles (PDA NPs) as energy acceptors. This sensor detects the fluctuations in CEA molecules via luminescence quenching and recovery resulting from a competitive binding assay between CEA and PDA NPs.

The Hox gene Sex combs reduced (Scr) is recognized as a key factor in the development of the head and thorax in insects. However, its function in the growth, development and morphogenesis of Gryllus bimaculatus remains poorly understood. This study aimed to explore the function of the Scr gene in G.

While hierarchical patterns of myelin maturation across the cortical surface are well-documented in humans, it remains unclear which features reflect evolutionarily conserved developmental processes versus human-characteristic adaptations. Moreover, the laminar development of myelin across the primate cortical surface, which shapes hierarchies and supports functions ranging from sensory integration to network communication, has been largely unexplored.

In contrast to traditional RNA regulatory approaches that modify the 2'-OH group, this study explores strategic base modifications using 5-carboxylcytosine (ca5C). We developed a technique where ca5C is transformed into dihydrouracil via treatment with borane-pyridine complex or 2-picoline borane complex, leading to base mutations that directly impact RNA functionality. This innovative strategy effectively manages CRISPR-Cas9 system activities, significantly minimizing off-target effects.

Methods: A multicenter real-world study included 922 patients with histologically confirmed epithelial ovarian cancer who received comprehensive staged surgery or debulking surgery at seven tertiary hospitals in China between 2012 and 2023. Prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) were used to assess the immunonutritional status for their superior predictive power to indicate the nutritional status and the inflammatory immunity.
Purpose: To understand the status of vitamin D deficiency in girls with growth and developmental variations, as well as the impact of COVID-19 on their vitamin D levels, and to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency in children.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 1,345 instances of girls with growth and developmental variations who visited our pediatric endocrinology department and completed vitamin D detection. A total of 279 girls with complete data were included in this study.
The quantum geometric properties of topological materials underpin many exotic physical phenomena and applications. Quantum nonlinearity has emerged as a powerful probe for revealing these properties. The Berry curvature dipole in nonmagnetic materials and the quantum metric dipole in antiferromagnets have been explored by studying the second-order nonlinear Hall effect.

Background: The high prevalence of low back pain has led to an increasing demand for the analysis of lumbar magnetic resonance (MR) images. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a deep-learning-assisted automated system for diagnosing and grading lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration based on lumbar T2-weighted sagittal and axial MR images.
Methods: This study included a total of 472 patients who underwent lumbar MR scans between January 2021 and November 2023, with 420 in the internal dataset and 52 in the external dataset.
Mutations in somatic cells are inflicted by both extrinsic and intrinsic sources and contribute over time to cancer. Tobacco smoke contains chemical carcinogens that have been causatively implicated with cancers of the lung and head & neck. APOBEC family DNA cytosine deaminases have emerged as endogenous sources of mutation in cancer, with hallmark mutational signatures (SBS2/SBS13) that often co-occur in tumors of tobacco smokers with an equally diagnostic mutational signature (SBS4).

Background: Compared to colorectal cancer (CRC) in adults, CRC in children is extremely rare. Although its incidence has increased recently, there is a lack of clinical research on the disease. Inherited cancer susceptibility syndromes (ICSS), a group of disorders in which patients are predisposed to susceptibility to a wide range of tumors as a result of pathogenic mutations in genes in their germ line, are an important cause of CRC in children.

Nicotine, a neuroactive substance in tobacco products, has been widely studied for its effects on feeding and body weight, mostly focusing on the involvement of nervous system, metabolism, hormones, and gut microbiota. To elucidate the action mechanism of nicotine on feeding and body weight, especially the underlying neurobiological mechanisms, we reviewed the studies on nicotine's effects on feeding and body weight by the regulation of various nerve systems, energy expenditure, peripheral hormones, gut microbiota, etc. The role of neuronal signaling molecules such as AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and kappa opioid receptor (κOR) were specialized in the nicotine-regulating energy expenditure.

Background: The early stages of tumor bone metastasis are closely associated with changes in the vascular niche of the bone microenvironment, and abnormal angiogenesis accelerates tumor metastasis and progression. However, the effects of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) cells reprogrammed by the bone microenvironment on the vascular niche within the bone microenvironment and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigates the effects and mechanisms of LUAD cells reprogrammed by the bone microenvironment on endothelial cells and angiogenesis, providing insights into the influence of tumor cells on the vascular niche within the bone microenvironment.

Here we show that previously proposed neuroprotective and neurotoxic astrocytes are transitional states rather than distinct subtypes, as revealed through time-series multiomic sequencing. Neuroprotective astrocytes are an intermediate state of the transition from a nonreactive to a neurotoxic state in response to neuroinflammation, a process regulated by the mTOR signaling pathway.
