The production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) through two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e- ORR) has emerged as a more environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional anthraquinone method. Although oxidized carbon catalysts have intensive developed due to their high selectivity and activity, the yield and conversion rate of H2O2 under high overpotential still limited. The produced H2O2 was rapidly consumed by the increased intensity of H2O2 reduction, which could ascribe to decomposition of peroxide radicals under high voltage in the carbon catalyst.

Wellbore instability caused by hydration during the development of shale gas reservoirs poses significant challenges to drilling engineering. In this study, a novel and environmentally friendly shale inhibitor, TIL-NH, was synthesized via free radical polymerization using 1-vinylimidazole and N-(2-bromoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine dihydrobromide as the main raw materials. The molecular structure of TIL-NH was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance.

Background: Acute variceal bleeding (AVB), a life-threatening complication of liver cirrhosis, can be effectively treated by endoscopy, but there is a risk of early rebleeding after endoscopic variceal treatment (EVT). Thrombocytopenia is the most common hemostatic abnormality in liver cirrhosis. However, it is still unclear about whether thrombocytopenia increases the failure of EVT in cirrhotic patients with AVB.

Over the past decade, fentanyl-type new psychoactive substances (F-NPS) have emerged as the most representative synthetic opioids in third-generation drugs. These substances are characterized by their "low" fatal dose and parent drug levels in biological matrices, "fast" rates of derivatization and metabolism, and "many" derivatization sites and analogs. The low levels of parent fentanyl NPS in biological matrices complicate their detection, necessitating the use of characteristic metabolites as biomarkers for forensic analysis.

Visible light microlasers are essential building blocks for integrated photonics. However, achieving low-threshold (μW), continuous-wave (CW) visible light lasing at room temperature (RT) has been a challenge because of the formidable requirement of population inversion at short wavelengths. Rare-earth (RE)-activated microcavities, featuring high-quality factor (Q) and small mode volume of whispering gallery modes, offer a great opportunity for achieving infrared-to-visible upconversion (UC) lasing.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) allows analyzing speech production by capturing high-resolution images of the dynamic processes in the vocal tract. In clinical applications, combining MRI with synchronized speech recordings leads to improved patient outcomes, especially if a phonological-based approach is used for assessment. However, when audio signals are unavailable, the recognition accuracy of sounds is decreased when using only MRI data.

Identification of the pollution source of surface water in a chemical park was difficult because many industrial enterprises with complex wastewater components and similar characteristics are located there. Therefore, a national-level chemical park in Jiaxing City was studied, and wastewater samples from ten batches of seven key enterprises in the park were collected and analyzed using 3D excitation emission matrix spectrometry (EEMS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Parallel factor analysis was used to extract common components of EEMS spectra from different batches of drainage in the same enterprise to construct an EEMS characteristic data matrix.

Introduction: Emotion recognition using electroencephalography (EEG) is a key aspect of brain-computer interface research. Achieving precision requires effectively extracting and integrating both spatial and temporal features. However, many studies focus on a single dimension, neglecting the interplay and complementarity of multi-feature information, and the importance of fully integrating spatial and temporal dynamics to enhance performance.

The emerging metal halide perovskites are challenging the traditional scintillators in the field of radiation detection and radiography. However, they lack the capability for remote and real-time radiation monitoring and imaging in confined and hostile conditions. To address this issue, details on an inorganic scintillating glass fiber incorporating perovskite quantum dots (QDs) as highly efficient pixelated radiation emitters are reported, while the glass fibers themselves serve at the same time as low-loss waveguides, enabling long-distance and underwater X-ray detection.

Waterborne pathogen contamination poses a significant threat to water resources globally and the exposure to waterborne pathogen contamination is widely recognized as unevenly distributed. Extreme weather events could exacerbate inequalities in waterborne disease as climate variability continues to escalate. However, there is a limited understanding of how extreme rainfall affects E.

Identification and quantification of speech variations in velar production across various phonological environments have always been an interesting topic in speech motor control studies. Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging has become a favorable tool for visualizing articulatory deformations and providing quantitative insights into speech activities over time. Based on this modality, it is proposed to employ a workflow of image analysis techniques to uncover potential deformation variations in the human tongue caused by changes in phonological environments by altering the placement of velar consonants in utterances.

Article Synopsis
  • This study analyzed the perioperative outcomes of pancreatoduodenectomy in elderly patients (75+) compared to younger patients (under 75) using data from 977 surgeries conducted over five years.
  • No significant differences in perioperative characteristics were found after matching the two groups, but elderly patients had higher rates of complications like hemorrhage and pulmonary infections.
  • Key risk factors for major complications included higher ASA scores and longer operative times, while laparoscopic surgery appeared to reduce major morbidity in elderly patients, suggesting that they can have outcomes similar to younger patients with proper care.

Development of a highly sensitive visualization platform for multiplex genetic detection could significantly improve efficiency and reliability of on-site detection of foodborne pathogens. In this study, coupling recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) with lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) readout system was proposed for Staphylococcus aureus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus detection. Taking the advantage of the isothermal amplification of RPA, dual primers modified with different labeling groups were designed to realize target signal amplification.

  • The behavior of nanoplastics (NPs) in water is heavily influenced by dissolved organic matter (DOM), which can change their stability.
  • DOM comes mainly from phytoplankton and varies in its structure and properties during algal blooms, impacting NPs' aggregation.
  • The study emphasizes the need for more detailed research on how these molecular changes affect NPs, particularly in eutrophic waters faced with algal growth.

  • Highly dispersed noble metals are crucial for enhancing catalyst efficiency in the oxidation of formaldehyde (HCHO).
  • The introduction of potassium (K) to palladium (Pd) supported on silicon oxide (SiO) significantly improved the catalyst's performance, achieving a 93% conversion rate of HCHO.
  • The study revealed that K doping stabilized Pd on the carrier, increased Pd dispersion, and enhanced the formation of oxygen vacancies, leading to more reactive oxygen species that boost oxidation efficiency.

Ubiquitination is the specific modification of target proteins in cells by ubiquitin molecules, which is under the action of a series of special enzymes such as ubiquitin-activating enzymes, binding, and ligase enzymes. Ubiquitination plays an essential role in anthocyanin accumulation in plants. There are few studies on the coloring of pear peel by ubiquitin ligase E3.

Oxidative stress has been confirmed to be closely related to the occurrence and development of pulmonary fibrosis (PF). The Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1)-nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway plays a key role in maintaining cellular redox homeostasis. Targeting the Keap1 protein to activate Nrf2 could be a promising strategy for treating PF.
