Optical tunable delay lines (OTDLs) which can capture temporal optical signals, and overcome the challenge of halting light are crucial for optical communications and microwave photonics. Here, a rapid-calibration 8-bit OTDL on the 3-µm-thick silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform consisting of waveguide spirals and integrated optical switches is proposed, achieving a maximum delay time of 3570 ps with a resolution of 14 ps/stage. The large delay is attributed to the spirals of a 3-µm-thick SOI platform featuring a delay efficiency of approximately 11.

Immune system regulation is a key indicator of the gut microbiota (GM) influencing disease development. The causal role of the GM in Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and whether it can be mediated by immune cells is unknown. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for the GM were obtained from the Dutch Microbiota Project (n = 7,738) and the FINRISK 2002 (FR02) cohort (n = 5,959).

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their potential to encode novel proteins important for human cancers, particularly gastric cancer (GC), highlighting the uncharacterized open reading frames (ORFs) within these lncRNAs.
  • Researchers identified a specific lncRNA, HCP5, which contains a non-canonical ORF that encodes a microprotein called HCP5-132aa, shown to be overexpressed in GC cells and to promote cell proliferation by inhibiting a process called ferroptosis.
  • The study further demonstrates that HCP5-132aa stabilizes certain mRNAs involved in tumor growth and successfully tested the effectiveness of knocking out this

Article Synopsis
  • The study identifies a small protein derived from long non-coding RNAs, called HDSP, that is linked to gastric cancer.
  • HDSP promotes cancer by preventing the degradation of MECOM, which then increases the transcription of SPINK1, a gene that activates cancer-related signaling pathways.
  • Targeting HDSP either by knocking it down or using it as a neoantigen enhances anti-tumor immunity and suggests it could be a new therapeutic target for treating gastric cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • A mathematical model was created to study how changes in thickness and material properties of tailor rolled blanks and tubes affect their performance.
  • The research revealed that these variations significantly influence stress distribution and the behavior of the materials under stress, identifying a new metric for measuring structural performance.
  • The findings enhance our understanding of tailor-rolled materials under different loads and provide insights for improving engineered materials and design methods in high-performance structures.

In normal cold rolling, the elastic deformation of the strip is typically ignored because of the dominant plastic deformation. However, this neglect may introduce additional errors when the strip is very thin. The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the deformation region and thickness reduction in the asymmetrical rolling of ultra-thin strips.

Apigenin (API) is a natural flavonoid compound with antioxidant, anti fibrotic, anti-inflammatory and other effects, but there is limited research on the effect of API on liver fibrosis. This study aims to explore the effect and potential mechanism of API on liver fibrosis induced by CCl4 in mice. The results indicate that API reduces oxidative stress levels, inhibits hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation, and exerts anti liver fibrosis effects by regulating the PKM2-HIF-1α pathway.

This paper presents an investigation on the forming characteristics of the tailor rolled blank of an aluminum alloy (Al-TRB) during three-point bending at room temperature through experiments and finite element simulations. The strain distribution, spring-back characteristics, and metal flow law of 6000 series Al-TRB during three-point bending are explored. The prepared Al-TRB has good bending properties, and no surface cracks appear in the bending region of the Al-TRB when bent to 180°.

The cellular automata (CA) method has played an important role in the research and development of metallic materials. CA can interpret the microstructure changes of materials and obtain more abundant, accurate and intuitive information of microstructure evolution than conventional methods. CA can visually represent the process of grain formation, growth, development and change to us in a graphical way, which can assist us in analysis, thinking and solving problems.

The conventional fault diagnosis of patient monitors heavily relies on manual experience, resulting in low diagnostic efficiency and ineffective utilization of fault maintenance text data. To address these issues, this paper proposes an intelligent fault diagnosis method for patient monitors based on multi-feature text representation, improved bidirectional gate recurrent unit (BiGRU) and attention mechanism. Firstly, the fault text data was preprocessed, and the word vectors containing multiple linguistic features was generated by linguistically-motivated bidirectional encoder representation from Transformer.

Mechanical parameters, time consumption and energy consumption are important considerations in the application of a certain rolling process. This study aims to investigate characteristics of the roll force, roll torque, roll power, rolling time and total work in multi-pass asymmetrical rolling of strip. Mathematic models were built using the slab method to calculate parameters in the asymmetrical rolling process, and the characteristics of these parameters were analyzed on the basis of simulation results.

Al-Si coated press-hardened steel (PHS) is widely used along with the development of light-weight vehicles, and the tailor-rolled blank parts based on Al-Si coated PHS have attracted much attention. The preparation process includes cold rolling, austenitization, hot-stamping, and quenching. The most widely used AS60/60 coating will change after cold rolling and austenitization, which has been little-studied.

Previous studies revealed that melatonin ameliorated acute renal injury induced by cisplatin, but the mechanisms remain unclear. Peroxidase proliferative receptor α (PPARα) is considered the major regulator of fatty acid oxidation (FAO), which is an important source of energy for renal tubular epithelial cells. In this study, the aim was to investigate the role of melatonin in cisplatin-induced NRK-52E (rat renal tubular epithelial cell line) cell damage and the underlying mechanisms.

Unlabelled: Despite the popular use of dietary supplements during conventional cancer treatments, their impacts on the efficacies of prevalent immunotherapies, including immune-checkpoint therapy (ICT), are unknown. Surprisingly, our analyses of electronic health records revealed that ICT-treated patients with cancer who took vitamin E (VitE) had significantly improved survival. In mouse models, VitE increased ICT antitumor efficacy, which depended on dendritic cells (DC).

The present study focused on the protective effects of melatonin against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury in mice and its possible mechanism of action in relation to the major regulator of fatty acid oxidation (FAO), peroxidase proliferative receptor α (PPARα). The experiment consisted of the following four groups: vehicle control, cisplatin (15 mg/kg), cisplatin & melatonin (20 mg/kg/day), and melatonin (20 mg/kg/day). Concomitant administration of melatonin significantly ameliorated cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury in mice by decreasing serum levels of triglyceride, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine, reducing the number and size of lipid droplets in tubular epithelial cells, and decreasing the incidence of histopathological changes including tubular cell apoptosis.

A series of mathematical models were proposed to calculate the roll force, torque and power for cold strip asymmetrical rolling by means of the slab method, taking the percentages of the forward-slip, backward-slip and cross-shear zones into account. The friction power, plastic work and total energy consumption can be obtained by the models. The effects of variable rolling parameters-such as the speed ratio, entry thickness, friction coefficient and front and back tension-on the process of asymmetrical rolling are analyzed.
