Bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) for T cell engagement have shown great promise in cancer immunotherapy, and their clinical applications have been proven in treating hematological malignance. Bispecific antibody binding fragment (BiFab) represents a promising platform for generating non-Fc bispecific antibodies. However, the generation of BiFab is still challenging, especially by means of chemical conjugation.

Suppressive myeloid cells inhibit antitumor immunity by preventing T-cell responses. Immunoglobulin-like transcript 3 (ILT3; also known as LILRB4) is highly expressed on tumor-associated myeloid cells and promotes their suppressive phenotype. However, the ligand that engages ILT3 within the tumor microenvironment and renders tumor-associated myeloid cells suppressive is unknown.

Background: Self-management of ambulatory cancer pain is full of challenges. Motivated by the need for better pain management, we developed a WeChat-supported platform, Medication Housekeeper (MediHK), to enhance communication, optimize outcomes, and promote self-management in the home setting.

Objective: We conducted a randomized controlled trial to assess whether the joint physician-pharmacist team through MediHK would provide better self-management of ambulatory patients with cancer pain.

The effectiveness of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines against the Delta variant, which has been associated with greater transmissibility and virulence, remains unclear. We conducted a test-negative case-control study to explore the vaccine effectiveness (VE) in real-world settings. We recruited participants aged 18-59 years who consisted of SARS-CoV-2 test-positive cases ( = 74) and test-negative controls ( = 292) during the outbreak of the Delta variant in May 2021 in Guangzhou city, China.

The rebound of online public opinion is an important driving force in inducing a secondary crisis in the case of public emergencies. Effective risk-information communication is an important means to manage online public opinion regarding emergencies. This paper employs fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis to discover which conditions are combined and may result in the rebound of online public opinion.

The specific recognition of T cell receptors (TCR) and peptides presented by human leukocyte antigens (pHLAs) is the core step for T cell triggering to execute anti-tumor activity. However, TCR assembly and soluble expression are challenging, which precludes the broad use of TCR in tumor therapy. Herein, we used heterodimeric Fc to assist in the correct assembly of TCRs to achieve the stable and soluble expression of several TCRs in mammalian cells, and the soluble TCRs enable us to yield novel bispecific T cell engagers (TCR/aCD3) through pairing them with an anti-CD3 antibody.

Background: Anaesthesia can alter neuronal excitability and vascular reactivity and ultimately lead to neurovascular coupling. Precise control of the skeletal muscle relaxant doses is the key in reducing anaesthetic damage.

Methods: A total of 102 patients with the normal functioning preoperative facial nerve who required parotid tumour resection were included in this study.

The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in the onset and development of diabetes and its complications. Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a gut microbiota-dependent metabolite of certain nutrients, is associated with type 2 diabetes and its complications. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is one of the most serious microvascular complications.

Early postoperative injection of botulinum toxin type A (BTxA) can reduce surgical scar hypertrophy. BTxA injection at different time points is associated with different levels of efficacy, but the efficacy of different doses of BTxA for scar management has not investigated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different doses of BTxA administered early after surgery on scar improvement through a split-scar experiment.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) can reportedly centrally affect the thermogenesis of brown fat. However, whether the peripheral IL-6 signaling regulates beiging of white fat remains largely unknown. In vitro experiments indicated IL-6-KO-derived white adipocytes exhibited lower thermogenic gene expression compared to the WT, associating with reduced phosphorylation of STAT3 at Tyr705.

Background: Phosphatidylserine (PS) is essential for inflammation-associated thrombogenesis, but the exact effect of PS on the prothrombotic state in periodontitis is uncertain. This study aimed to determine the PS-related procoagulant state in patients with periodontitis.

Methods: A total of 138 patients with periodontitis were examined compared with 42 healthy controls.

Freshwater lakes experience drastic water level fluctuations because of climate change and human activities. However, the influence of such fluctuations on phosphorus cycling in sediments has rarely been investigated. We conducted a geochemical investigation on the phosphorus cycle in a shallow freshwater lake, Dongting Lake; under the influence of human activities and climate change, its water regime undergoes drastic changes.

Circular RNA protein kinase, DNA-activated, catalytic subunit (circ_PRKDC) has been found to impede wound healing in diabetic foot ulcers via regulating keratinocyte proliferation and migration. However, the mechanisms underlying circ_PRKDC in skin wound healing remain unclear. The expression of circ_PRKDC, microRNA (miR)-31 and fibrillin 1 (FBN1) was detected using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot assays.

Article Synopsis
  • Neoadjuvant chemotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is linked to increased risk of thromboembolism and secondary tumors, with chemotherapy-induced microparticles playing a key role in this process.
  • A study analyzed blood samples from TNBC patients undergoing treatment, revealing that chemotherapy boosts the presence of procoagulant breast cancer cell-derived microparticles (BCMPs), which significantly affect platelet function and endothelial integrity.
  • The study found that using lactadherin could mitigate the coagulation effects of BCMPs, indicating a potential therapeutic avenue, while other methods like tissue factor antibody treatment were ineffective.

  • * A new strain, named subsp. LX24, was developed that significantly enhances the production of 2-Hydroxyphenazine (2-OH-PHZ), a compound with stronger inhibitory effects on the disease compared to other treatments.
  • * The study successfully optimized fermentation processes, resulting in a record production level of 677.1 mg/L of 2-OH-PHZ, which could inform the efficient production of other agricultural pesticides and antibiotics.

Multidrug-resistance hepatitis B virus (MDR HBV), defined as those with mutations resistant to both nucleoside analogs lamivudine/telbivudine/entecavir (LAM/LdT/ETV) and nucleotide analog adefovir (ADV), has potential to cause treatment difficulty. To clarify clinical prevalence and virological features of MDR HBV, we investigated serum samples from 28,236 chronic HBV-infected patients with treatment of nucleoside/nucleotide analogs. All patients underwent resistance testing in the Fifth Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital between 2007 and 2019.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is the most prevalent disease with severe mortality, and hypoxia-induced cardiac injury and cardiomyocyte apoptosis are the significant and harmful consequences of this disease. The cross talk between hypoxia signaling and glycolysis energy flux plays a critical role in modulating MI-related heart disorder. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear.
