With the development of global urbanization, the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart cities are becoming hot research topics. As an emerging model, edge computing can play an important role in smart cities because of its low latency and good performance. IoT devices can reduce time consumption with the help of a mobile edge computing (MEC) server.

While its nonlinear properties based on third-order effects have been successfully exploited, an efficient second harmonic generation in standard stoichiometric silicon nitride (SiN) waveguides can also be achieved after all-optical poling, as was recently shown. The root of such a phenomenon has been attributed to the inscription of a self-organized periodic space-charge grating along the waveguide, allowing an effective χ and automatic quasi-phase-matching of pump and second harmonic.

PE increases the risk of poor outcomes for both the mother and the baby. Methylation-mediated transcriptional dysregulation motifs (methTDMs) could contribute the PE development.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been verified to participate in many biological processes, including regulating gene expression as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), while few studies focused the ceRNA network regulation mechanism in patients with HPV-negative HNSCC tumor. Meanwhile, the immune microenvironment may be critical in the development and prognosis of HPV-negative tumors.

β-catenin is a multifunctional protein that plays crucial roles in embryonic development, physiological homeostasis, and a wide variety of human cancers. Previously, we showed that in vivo targeted ablation of β-catenin in melanoma-associated fibroblasts after melanoma formation significantly suppressed tumor growth. However, when the expression of β-catenin was ablated in melanoma-associated fibroblasts before tumor initiation, melanoma development was surprisingly accelerated.

In the presence of an inexpensive ZnI2 catalyst and versatile propargylamine and β-naphthol (or β-naphthylamine and β-naphthyl mercaptan) starting materials, a variety of sterically hindered heterobiaryl frameworks can be easily obtained. The present catalytic system offers excellent selectivity, good-to-excellent product yields, and good functional group tolerance including, for instance, -CN, -COOH, -C(O)R, -Br and -Cl groups.

We generated IFN-α-producing cells by genetically engineered induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived proliferating myeloid cells (iPSC-pMCs). Local administration of IFN-α-producing iPSC-pMCs (IFN-α-iPSC-pMCs) alters the tumor microenvironment and propagates the molecular signature associated with type I IFN.

Notch pathway mediates cell survival and EMT and is involved in the induction of multidrug resistance (MDR). ZLDI-8 is an inhibitor of Notch activating/cleaving enzyme ADAM-17 we found before.

The activation of iNKT cells by their specific ligand α-galactosylceramide (α-GalCer) induces the activation of dendritic cells (DCs) via reciprocal interaction, which results in the generation of cellular immunity against cancer. Here we describe a method to detect DC-mediated cellular adjuvant properties of human iNKT cells in vitro.

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have been suggested to possess the capacity to differentiate into different cell lineages. Maintaining a balanced stem cell differentiation program is crucial to the bone microenvironment and bone development. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have played a critical role in regulating the differentiation of BMSCs into particular lineage.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteoporosis is closely associated with the dysfunction of bone metabolism, which is caused by the imbalance between new bone formation and bone resorption. Osteogenic differentiation plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of bone microenvironment. The present study investigated whether melatonin participated in the osteogenic commitment of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and further explored its underlying mechanisms.

Limited studies report the relationship between SOX8 expression and overall survival in colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to collect the pathological tissues and clinical data in order to analyze the relationship between SOX8 expression and clinicopathological parameters and prognosis of CRC patients.

At our department, the authors performed a periareolar mastopexy and harvested costal cartilage for use in a rhinoplasty through the same periareolar incision. This technique has several advantages compared to the traditional method, including less invasion, minimal chance of a hypertrophic scar and easier postoperative care. However, the location of the incision determines that the fifth costal cartilage is the lowest one accessible.

Objective: A systematic review of the published literature was conducted to assess the efficacy of LM compared with incisional myringotomy (IM) with or without tympanostomy ventilation tube (VT) for the surgical treatment of OME in pediatric patients (age ≤ 18 years).
Methods: We searched the PubMed, Web of Science, Ovid, VIP Chinese, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang Chinese databases for articles published before Nov 20, 2018.

Tumor cells reside in a highly complex and heterogeneous tumor microenvironment (TME), which is composed of a myriad of genetically stable non-cancer cells, including fibroblasts, immune cells, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, and a tumor-specific extracellular matrix (ECM). Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), as an abundant and active stromal cell population in the TME, function as the signaling center and remodeling machine to aid the creation of a desmoplastic tumor niche. Although there is no denial that the TME and CAFs may have anti-tumor effects as well, a great deal of findings reported in recent years have convincingly revealed the tumor-promoting effects of CAFs and CAF-derived ECM proteins, enzymes, chemical factors and other downstream effectors.
