Background: At present, although some studies have offered certain insights into the genetic factors related to unruptured intracranial aneurysms (uIAs), the potential genetic targets associated with uIAs remain largely unknown. Thus, this research adopted Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to study two genome-wide association studies on uIAs, aiming to determine the reliable genetic susceptibility and potential therapeutic targets for uIAs.

Methods: This study summarizes the data of expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) as exposure data.

Article Synopsis
  • Leak detection is essential for water safety and conservation, but current machine learning approaches lack interpretability, impacting their practical credibility.
  • The study presents a new model called the multi-channel convolution neural network (MCNN), which outperforms the existing frequency convolutional neural network (FCNN) with a 95.4% accuracy in real-world applications, and includes the use of MGrad-CAM for visualizing decision-making processes.
  • Findings reveal that leak acoustic signals can be clustered into patterns, with factors such as pressure and proximity influencing the signal characteristics, ultimately enhancing the model's accuracy in leak detection.

Data missing and anomalies in monitoring equipment have become critical barriers to developing intelligent Water Supply Systems (WSS). The valid data preceding and after the missing segments can be utilized to impute missing values. However, traditional imputation methods, such as linear interpolation and prediction-based methods, have limited capacity to use data relationships or can only utilize information before the missing values.

Unlabelled: Chromatin organization is essential for DNA packaging and gene regulation in eukaryotic genomes. While significant progresses have been made, the exact atomistic arrangement of nucleosomes remains controversial. Using a well-calibrated residue-level coarse-grained model and advanced dynamics modeling techniques, particularly the non-Markovian dynamics model, we map the free energy landscape of tetra-nucleosome systems, identify both metastable conformations and intermediate states in folding pathways, and quantify the folding kinetics.

Background: Vascularized bone grafting (VBG) is preferred for mandibular reconstruction post-tumor ablation. Although various bone-free flaps are used, their application is compromised by limitations including insufficient bone volume and poor shape. Here, we report mandibular reconstruction using axial split-step osteotomy with an iliac crest-free flap.

Leakage in water distribution systems is a significant problem worldwide, leading to wastage of water resources, compromised water quality and excess energy consumption. Leakage detection is essential to reduce the duration of leaks and data-driven methods are increasingly being used for this purpose. However, these models are data hungry and available observed data, especially leakage data, is limited in most cases.

The widespread presence of iron (Fe) particles and natural organic matter (NOM) in drinking water distribution systems (DWDS) can significantly affect tap water quality, contributing to aesthetic issues and potentially generating harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs). This study revealed that Fe particles, when combined with humic acid (HA), substantially increased DBP formation during chlorination. Fe particles (particularly preformed Fe particles) significantly increased haloacetic acid (HAA) formation by activating the persistent free radicals (PFRs) in the HA.

Many researchers have addressed the challenge of optimal pressure sensor placement for different purposes, such as leakage detection, model calibration, state estimation, etc. However, pressure data often need to serve multiple purposes, and a method to optimize sensor locations with versatility for various objectives is still lacking. In this paper, a graph-based optimal sensor placement (GOSP) framework is proposed, which aims to provide a robust and all-purpose approach to identify critical points for pressure monitoring.

Digital light processing (DLP) 3D bioprinting technology has attracted increasing attention in tissue engineering in recent years. However, it still faces significant technical and operational challenges such as cell carcinogenesis caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light and the presence of heavy metal ions in complex photoinitiator systems. In this study, a novel strategy is designed to introduce carbon quantum dots into visible-light-induced silk fibroin bioink as initiators (CDs/SilMA) applied for DLP 3D bioprinting technology.

Improving the resilience of wastewater treatment facilities (WWTFs) has never been more important with rising risks of disasters under climate change. Beyond physical damages, non-physical shocks induced by disasters warrant attention. Human mobility is a vital mediator in transferring the stresses from extreme events into tangible challenges for urban sewage systems by reshaping influent characteristics.

Graph theory (GT) and complex network theory play an increasingly important role in the design, operation, and management of water distribution networks (WDNs) and these tasks were originally often heavily dependent on hydraulic models. Facing the general reality of the lack of high-precision hydraulic models in water utilities, GT has become a promising surrogate or assistive technology. However, there is a lack of a systematic review of how and where the GT techniques are applied to the field of WDNs, along with an examination of potential directions that GT can contribute to addressing WDNs' challenges.

Chromatin organization plays a critical role in cellular function by regulating access to genetic information. However, understanding chromatin folding is challenging due to its complex, multiscale nature. Significant progress has been made in studying in vitro systems, uncovering the structure of individual nucleosomes and their arrays, and elucidating the role of physicochemical forces in stabilizing these structures.

Background: Human milk fat analog emulsion (HMFAE) is an emulsion that mimics the composition and structure of human milk (HM) fat globules. The application of HMFAE in infant formula requires a series of milk powder processing steps, such as pasteurization and spray drying. However, the effect of milk powder processing on fat digestion of HMFAE is still unclear.

Predicting these byproducts is crucial for tailoring technology-related policy decisions. However, it challenges balancing mass balance models and mechanistic models that respectively have limited intervariable nexus representation and excessive requirements on operational parameters.

In order to achieve rapid detection of galactooligosaccharides (GOS), fructooligosaccharides (FOS), calcium (Ca), and vitamin C (Vc), four micronutrient components in infant formula milk powder, this study employed four methods, namely Standard Normal Variate (SNV), Multiplicative Scatter Correction (MSC), Normalization (Nor), and Savitzky-Golay Smoothing (SG), to preprocess the acquired original spectra of the milk powder. Then, the Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling (CARS) algorithm and Random Frog (RF) algorithm were used to extract representative characteristic wavelengths. Furthermore, Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) and Support Vector Regression (SVR) models were established to predict the contents of GOS, FOS, Ca, and Vc in infant formula milk powder.
