Studying the influence of topography and litter and soil nutrients on soil enzymes and microbial biomass is important to the understanding of soil nutrient transformation and cycling, but these relationships in heterogeneous soils of karst ecosystem remains poorly understood. We determined environment factors influencing the urease (URS) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and microbial biomass C and N (MBC and MBN) with advancing vegetation succession. In this Review article, we systematically summarize the design and applications of various kinds of long-lived emissive probes for bioimaging and biosensing via time-resolved photoluminescence techniques. The probes reviewed, including lanthanides, transition-metal complexes, organic dyes, carbon and silicon nanoparticles, metal clusters, and persistent phosphores, exhibit longer luminescence lifetimes than that of autofluorescence from biological tissue and organs. When these probes are internalized into living cells or animals, time-gated photoluminescence imaging selectively collects long-lived signals for intensity analysis, while photoluminescence lifetime imaging reports the decay details of each pixel.

Background: Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), known as the third endogenous gaseous transmitter, has received increasing attention because of its diverse effects, including angiogenesis, vascular relaxation and myocardial protection.We aimed to investigate the role of H2S in oxidative/nitrative stress and inflammation in acute lung injury (ALI) induced by endotoxemia.
Methods: Male ICR mice were divided in six groups: (1) Control group; (2) GYY4137treatment group; (3) L-NAME treatment group; (4) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment group; (5) LPS with GYY4137 treatment group; and (6) LPS with L-NAME treatment group.
In this work, we report a rapid stability phenomenon of ferroelectric polarization in the Ca, Ce hybrid doped BaTiO ceramics (BCaxT+BTCe8) (x = 10, 20, 24, 30 mol%) prepared by separate doping Ca and Ce ions. Double hysteresis loops are identified in the aged BCaxT+BTCe8 samples; meanwhile, the polarization of these loops present a rapid decrease within very short aging time (about 1 h), and then the polarization remains almost unchanged over the followed ~1000 h. This phenomenon is not reported in previous researches.

The phosphorescent intensity of cationic component is sensitive to bithiols, such as cysteine and homocysteine, based on the addition reaction of bithiols with α,β-unsaturated ketone moiety, while that of the anionic component remains unchanged. Thus, this ion-paired iridium(III) complex can be used for ratiometric luminescence sensing and imaging of intracellular biothiols with excellent sensing performance.

The transfer, from soil to Chinese cabbage and spinach, of radioactive strontium-90 released as a result of accidents in nuclear power stations was studied using a stable isotope of strontium, namely nuclide strontium-88 (Sr). The study led to an experimental model for assessing the hazard of radionuclide strontium-90 (Sr) entering the food chain and for predicting the risk to food safety.
