The pathogenic bacterium is notorious for causing acute and chronic infections in humans. The ability to infect host by is dependent on a complex cellular signaling network, which includes a large number of chemosensory signaling pathways that rely on the methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins (MCPs). We previously found that the second messenger c-di-GMP-binding adaptor MapZ modulates the methylation of an amino acid-detecting MCP by directly interacting with a chemotaxis methyltransferase CheR1.

Selenium (Se), as a nutritionally essential trace element, has been shown to decrease with age and is closely related to Alzheimer's disease (AD). To probe the effects of Se on AD pathology, two-dimensional fluorescence difference gel electrophoresis was applied to the serum samples collected from the wild-type (WT) mice and the triple transgenic (PS1M146V/AβPPSwe/TauP301L) AD mice (3xTg-AD), treated with or without sodium selenate in drinking water for 4 months beginning at 2 months of age. Proteomics results revealed 17 differentially expressed proteins between WT and 3xTg-AD mice.

Oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial dysfunction plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Hydrogen molecule, a special antioxidant, can selectively scavenge highly cytotoxic reactive oxygen species such as ·OH, exhibiting a potential to treat AD by reducing oxidative stress. However, there is no effective route to realize the continuous and efficient accumulation of administrated hydrogen in AD brain owing to its low solubility.

By fitting with the aerosol optical depth (AOD) from AERONET ground observations at sites in Beijing, Xianghe, and Xinglong with different environmental backgrounds, MODIS C051 Dark Target (DT C051), C006 Dark Target (DT C006), C006 Deep Blue (DB C006), and C006 Deep Blue/Dark Target merged AOD products were compared and evaluated to understand their applicability in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The main conclusions are as follows:① The comparison of the C051 and C006 algorithms shows that the accuracy of the AOD at the Beijing and Xianghe sites notably improved, while an improvement was not observed at the Xinglong site; the DB C006 AOD is closest to the AERONET AOD at the Beijing site and the DT C006 AOD is closest to the AERONET AOD at the Xianghe site; the combined C006 AOD is closest to the AERONET AOD at the Xinglong site. ② The inversion error of the MODIS DT C006 at the Beijing site is caused by the improper selection of the aerosol model and surface reflectance; the inversion error of the MODIS DB C006 is mainly due to surface reflectance in spring and the aerosol model in winter.

Despite recent advances, the efficacy of androgen/androgen receptor (AR)-targeted therapy remains  limited for many patients with metastatic prostate cancer. This is in part because prostate cancers adaptively switch to the androgen/AR-independent pathway for survival and growth, thereby conferring therapy resistance. Tumor hypoxia is considered as a major cause of treatment resistance.
