Aims: This study aimed to investigate potential biomarkers for predicting incident heart failure (HF) in patients with atrial fibrillation and flutter (AF and AFL), utilizing proteomic data from the UK Biobank Pharma Proteomics Project (UKB-PPP).
Methods: This study analysed data from AF and AFL patients, split into discovery (n = 1050) and replication (n = 305) cohorts. Plasma biomarkers were screened using a multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards model.
Ferroptosis is a unique form of cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, with regulatory mechanisms involving metabolic dysregulation and imbalance in redox systems. Ferroptosis is closely related to various immune cells in the tumor immune microenvironment, including both anti-tumor and pro-tumor immune cells, and it demonstrates significant potential in tumor immunotherapy. A systematic review of the regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and its relationship with immune cells can provide deeper insights into its application prospects in tumor immunotherapy.

Objective: The short-term efficacy of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion among general traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients is unclear.
Methods: We used the MIMIC database to compare the efficacy of liberal (10 g/dL) versus conservative (7 g/dL) transfusion strategy in TBI patients. The outcomes were neurological progression (decrease of Glasgow coma scale (GCS) of at least 2 points) and death within 28 days of ICU admission.

However, challenges remain in enhancing vascularization and preventing infection, especially given the complexities of modifying the intricate surface structure of porous titanium (PT). This study introduces a novel surface modification technique of PT using anti-gravity perfusion electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique to fabricate antibacterial coatings containing silver (Ag) and copper (Cu) co-doped mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Ag-Cu@MSN) and chitosan binder on the surface of PT.

This study was devised to examine potential alterations in regional homogeneity (ReHo) that arise in schizophrenia patients with comorbid MetS undergoing risperidone or clozapine treatment. In total, 43 schizophrenia patients undergoing risperidone or clozapine treatment were enrolled in this study, of whom 20 had comorbid MetS (SZ-MetS) while 23 did not (SZ-nMetS).

It consolidates findings from both preclinical and clinical studies on cardiac selectivity and explores the potential mechanisms behind this selectivity.
Recent Findings: Preclinical studies indicate that pulsed electric fields cause significantly more myocardial injury compared with other tissues.
Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are widely developed in cancer phototherapy due to their definite chemical structure and tunable photosensitivity. However, their in vivo application is hampered by low water solubility and non-specific biodistribution. Here,a strategy of sialylation-modulation is developed for the first time to highly improve the bioavailability of Pcs.

The substances that cause abnormal DNA structures are known as DNA damage-inducing factors, and their resulting DNA damage has been extensively studied and proven to be closely related to cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and aging. Prolonged exposure to DNA damage-inducing factors can lead to a variety of difficult-to-treat diseases, yet these factors have not been well summarized. It is crucial to use a combination of environmental science and life science to gain a deep understanding of the environmental sources and biological consequences of DNA damage-inducing factors for mechanistic research and prevention of diseases such as cancer.

HsGDY undergoes significant chemical and physical transformations when subjected to thermal heating, both in the presence and absence of sulfur. Our findings suggest that the structural transformation of HsGDY into a graphene-like structure is primarily responsible for enhancing sulfur trapping and reducing the polysulfide shuttle effect, rather than the previously hypothesized alkyne-sulfur chemical interactions.

Despite the superiority of catheter ablation in maintaining sinus rhythm, the knowledge gaps regarding the prognostic benefits of non-early (onset of AF ≥1 year) ablation remain.
Objective: The study aimed to describe outcomes of non-early AF in the CABANA trial.
This study aimed to identify genes associated with autophagy and potential diagnostic biomarkers by comparing the gene expression profiles of synovial tissues in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and healthy individuals, aiming to offer new insights for clinical treatment strategies. We used publicly available datasets to analyze differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the synovial tissue of RA patients and healthy individuals. Then, we intersected these DEGs with autophagy-related genes to identify autophagy genes in the synovial tissue of RA patients.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate how comorbidity burden influences the association between RFCA and cardiovascular outcomes in AF patients with HFpEF.
Methods: AF patients with HFpEF from the prospective China-AF cohort, recruited between August 2011 and December 2020, were categorized into 2 groups based CHADS-VASc score: low comorbidity burden (score ≤4) and high comorbidity burden (score >4).
