The integration of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with other materials presents a promising approach to overcome inherent limitations and enable the development of novel functionalities. In particular, 0D nanomaterials (0D NMs) offer notable advantages for photodetection, including broadband light absorption, size-dependent optoelectronic properties, high quantum efficiency, and good compatibility. Herein, the integration of 0D NMs with 2D TMDs to develop high-performance photodetectors is reviewed.

Triboelectric polymers have attracted extensive attention due to their great electron-accepting and electron-donating properties in contact electrification as well as their flexible and low-cost merits and have become promising electrode materials in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). However, most research has exclusively focused on improving the electron capture capability of the triboelectric layer, neglecting to enhance the electron-donating capability, which leads to a low output performance of TENG and limits its practical application. In this study, we developed a method to fabricate highly tribo-positive Nylon-11 film through roll-to-roll processing.

One-dimensional (1D) Zn-based heterostructures have attracted considerable interest in the field of photodetection because of their tunable properties, flexibility, and unique optoelectronic properties. However, designing 1D multi-component Zn-based heterostructures for advanced photodetectors is still a great challenge. Herein, comb-like 1D-1D ZnO-ZnSe heterostructures with ZnO and ZnSe nanowires (NWs) comprising the shaft and teeth of a comb are reported.

The electronic properties of 2D materials are highly influenced by the molecular activity at their interfaces. A method was proposed to address this issue by employing passivation techniques using monolayer MoS field-effect transistors (FETs) while preserving high performance. Herein, we have used alkali metal fluorides as dielectric capping layers, including lithium fluoride (LiF), sodium fluoride (NaF), and potassium fluoride (KF) dielectric capping layers, to mitigate the environmental impact of oxygen and water exposure.

Noble metal and semiconductor composite substrates possess high sensitivity, excellent stability, good biocompatibility, and selective enhancement, making them an important research direction in the field of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). TaO, as a semiconductor material with high thermal stability, corrosion resistance, outstanding optical properties, and catalytic performance, has great potential in SERS research. This study aims to design and fabricate a composite SERS substrate based on TaO nanostructures, achieving optimal detection performance by combining the urchin-like structure of TaO with silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs).

The relatively low output performance of triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), which faces a challenge in performance improvement, limits its practical applications. Here, a high-performance TENG consisting of a silicon carbide@silicon dioxide nanowhiskers/polydimethylsiloxane (SiC@SiO/PDMS) nanocomposite film and a superhydrophobic aluminum (Al) plate as triboelectric layers is demonstrated. The 7 wt% SiC@SiO/PDMS TENG presents a peak voltage of 200 V and a peak current of 30 μA, which are ~ 300 and ~ 500% over that of the PDMS TENG, owing to an increase in dielectric constant and a decrease in dielectric loss of the PDMS film because of electric insulated SiC@SiO nanowhiskers.

Background: A rapidly growing body was observed of literature evaluating the vaccine effectiveness (VE) against Omicron in test-negative design studies.

Methods: We systematically searched papers that evaluated VE of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines on PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, Embase, Scopus, bioRxiv, and medRxiv published from November 26th, 2021, to June 27th, 2022 (full doses and the first booster), and to January 8th, 2023 (the second booster). The pooled VE against Omicron-associated infection and severe events were estimated.

Herein, a soft-template strategy involving the cationic surfactants has been successfully applied to size-controlled synthesis of hierarchical porous Fe-N/C for the first time. Specifically, a small amount of Fe and cationic surfactants can be uniformly doped into the zinc-based zeolite imidazole framework (ZIF-8) crystal particles and the cationic surfactants play a critical role in the formation of hierarchically porous Fe-ZIF-8@surfactant precursors. When the Fe-ZIF-8@surfactant is subsequently pyrolyzed, atomically dispersed Fe-N coordination structures can be in-situ converted to Fe-N/C, while the cationic surfactants decompose to form a carbon matrix to encapsulate the active sites, thereby preventing the aggregation of nanoparticles to a certain extent.

Objective: Human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) are ideal seed cells for the regeneration of alveolar bone defects. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is rich in growth factors, promotes tissue repair. The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether PRP promotes the osteogenic differentiation of hADSCs and to perform high-throughput sequencing to explore the possible mechanism.

Thermodynamically induced tensile stress in the perovskite film will lead to the formation of atomic vacancies, seriously destroying the photovoltaic efficiency stability of the perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Among them, cations and halide anions vacancies are unavoidable; these point vacancies are considered to be a major source of the ionic migration and perovskite degradation at the crystal boundary and surface of the perovskite films. Here, we use choline bromide to modify the perovskite film by occupying the atomic defects in the CsPbBr perovskite film.

The ongoing enzootic circulation of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in the Middle East and North Africa is increasingly raising the concern about the possibility of its recombination with other human-adapted coronaviruses, particularly the pandemic SARS-CoV-2. We aim to provide an updated picture about ecological niches of MERS-CoV and associated socio-environmental drivers. Based on 356 confirmed MERS cases with animal contact reported to the WHO and 63 records of animal infections collected from the literature as of 30 May 2020, we assessed ecological niches of MERS-CoV using an ensemble model integrating three machine learning algorithms.

Hierarchical, ultrathin, and porous NiMoO@CoMoO on CoO hollow bones were successfully designed and synthesized by a hydrothermal route from the Co-precursor, followed by a KOH (potassium hydroxide) activation process. The hydrothermally synthesized CoO nanowires act as the scaffold for anchoring the NiMoO@CoMoO units but also show more compatibility with NiMoO, leading to high conductivity in the heterojunction. The intriguing morphological features endow the hierarchical CoO@NiMoO@CoMoO better electrochemical performance where the capacity of the CoO@NiMoO@CoMoO heterojunction being 272 mA·h·g at 1 A·g can be achieved with a superior retention of 84.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to understand COVID-19 transmission dynamics during the early pandemic by analyzing a large dataset of cases and their potential transmission pairs.
  • Findings showed that the median incubation period was 7.2 days, with children under 18 having longer incubation periods compared to adults.
  • The research highlighted that peak infectivity happened one day before symptoms appeared, indicating that a significant portion of transmission occurred during the incubation period, which underscores the need for strict control measures like early case detection and quarantining contacts.
