View Article and Find Full Text PDFActin is an essential component of the cytoskeleton in every eukaryotic cell. Cytoplasmic β-and γ-actin are over 99% identical to each other at the protein level, but are encoded by different genes and play distinct roles in vivo. Blood cells, especially red blood cells (RBC), contain almost exclusively β-actin, and it has been generally assumed that this bias is dictated by unique suitability of β-actin for RBC cytoskeleton function due to its specific amino acid sequence.

Despite the unidirectionality of the assays, distinct differences were observed in the mechanisms of interference and activity manifestation by the compounds. The gathered data permitted the formation of hypotheses about the molecular fragments of the studied antiglycators that are of utmost significance in each assay, thereby guiding future design endeavors.

Aims: To quantify the formation, composition, and morphology of leukocyte-platelet aggregates in vitro under the influence of various cellular activators.
Methods: Phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA), lipopolysaccharide (LPS), thrombin receptor-activating peptide (TRAP-6), and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) were used as cellular activators.
A large series of 2-arylchromen-4-ones containing from 1 to 3 fluorine atoms or a trifluoromethyl group in the structure was synthesized by condensation of fluorinated 2-hydroxyacetophenones with benzaldehydes in an alkaline medium and subsequent oxidative cyclization of the resulting 2'-hydroxychalcones by action of I in DMSO. The cytotoxicity of the obtained compounds was studied in glioblastoma cell line, SNB19, and in a monkey-derived normal kidney epithelium cell line, Vero. In addition, antiglycation activity of the obtained compounds was evaluated.

Comparison with the charmonium state ψ(2S) suggests that the exotic χ_{c1}(3872) experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons, and comparison with data from proton-proton collisions indicates that the presence of the nucleus may modify χ_{c1}(3872) production rates. This is the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor of an exotic hadron.

A portion of the ruptured clot can block blood flow in downstream vessels. The mechanical stability of blood clots is determined primarily by the 3D polymeric fibrin network that forms a gel.

For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the standard model, are extracted directly from the data through a q^{2}-unbinned amplitude analysis, where q^{2} is the μ^{+}μ^{-} invariant mass squared.

The ratio of Λ_{b}^{0} to B^{0} production cross sections shows a significant dependence on both the transverse momentum and the measured charged-particle multiplicity. At low multiplicity, the ratio measured at LHCb is consistent with the value measured in e^{+}e^{-} collisions, and increases by a factor of ∼2 with increasing multiplicity.

The static final extent of clot contraction measured using a clot size or expelled serum volume can be supplemented substantially with a dynamic analysis.
Objectives: To provide a step-by-step protocol for a relatively simple and affordable new automated methodology to follow the kinetics of blood clot contraction, which allows for simultaneous measurements of various samples at a time and requires only a fluorescence plate reader.

Using a sample of approximately 349 000 B_{s}^{0} signal decays with an invariant K^{+}K^{-} mass in the vicinity of the ϕ(1020) resonance, the CP-violating phase ϕ_{s} is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B_{s}^{0}-B[over ¯]_{s}^{0} system, ΔΓ_{s}, and the difference of the average B_{s}^{0} and B^{0} meson decay widths, Γ_{s}-Γ_{d}. The values obtained are ϕ_{s}=-0.
