An anatomy of carewashing: Corporate branding and the commodification of care during Covid-19.

This article defines 'carewashing' as commercial branding strategies which commodify care and attempt to increase corporate profit, and provides the first theorisation and historicisation of the term. The first section of the article situates 'carewashing' in relation to longer-term strategies of corporate 'social responsibility' and cause-related marketing. The second shows how established corporate practices are being reinvented in an era of Covid-19 and amidst profound neoliberal instability.

The Effect of Anonymous Computer-Mediated Communication on State Anxiety: An Experimental Study.

This study examined the effect of anonymous computer-mediated communication (CMC) on state anxiety, specifically focusing on whether the valence of the interaction affected state anxiety before completing an anxiety-inducing task. Sixty-two female participants aged 18-25 were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: positive CMC, negative CMC, and blog. Self-report measures of state anxiety were taken at baseline; after participants had been given instructions about the anxiety-inducing task; after 10 minutes of CMC/blog writing; and after the anxiety-inducing task had been completed.

In order to end this epidemic they have established a 90-90-90 goal to be achieved by 2020, which may be problematic, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This goal includes 90% of individuals with HIV globally being diagnosed, on treatment, and virologically suppressed.

Consensus Guidelines and Contouring Atlas for Pelvic Node Delineation in Prostate and Pelvic Node Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to establish reproducible guidelines for delineating the clinical target volume (CTV) of the pelvic lymph nodes (LN) by combining the freehand Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH) and Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) vascular expansion techniques.

Methods And Materials: Seven patients with prostate cancer underwent standard planning computed tomography scanning. Four different CTVs (RMH, RTOG, modified RTOG, and Prostate and pelvIs Versus prOsTate Alone treatment for Locally advanced prostate cancer [PIVOTAL] trial) were created for each patient, and 6 different bowel expansion margins (BEM) were created to assess bowel avoidance by the CTV.

Mechanisms of phosphorus removal by cement-bound ochre pellets.

Hydrous ferric oxide (here termed 'ochre') sludge, an abundant waste product produced from the treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD), was used in this study for the removal of phosphorus (in the form of phosphate ions) from contaminated waters. The phosphorus uptake capacities of both raw and pelletized AMD solids were compared using batch and column tests. Addition of a cement binder to the AMD solids during pellet production led to significantly increased P-loading of the resultant solids compared to the raw sludge.

Biology of colorectal pulmonary metastasis: implications for surgical resection.

In colorectal cancer, little high grade evidence for cure, life extension, disease modification or palliation achieved by pulmonary metastasectomy exists. This has prompted the pulmonary metastasectomy in colorectal cancer (PulMiCC) trial. Reappraisal of the biological facts on colorectal metastasis may, however, shed light on an alternative avenue of clinical management.

CT-guided percutaneous transpulmonary adrenal biopsy - a technical note.

CT-guided percutaneous adrenal biopsy is commonly performed using a posterior or trans-abdominal approach. However, trans-abdominal access to the gland may not be technically feasible in some patients. In our case, CT-guided transthoracic percutaneous biopsy of the adrenal gland was performed with technical success, identifying the tumour.

Gemcitabine plus carboplatin versus mitomycin, ifosfamide, and cisplatin in patients with stage IIIB or IV non-small-cell lung cancer: a phase III randomized study of the London Lung Cancer Group.

Purpose: This phase III randomized trial compared two chemotherapy regimens, gemcitabine plus carboplatin and mitomycin, ifosfamide, and cisplatin, in chemotherapy-naive patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The regimens were compared with regard to effects on survival, response rates, toxicity, and quality of life.

Patients And Methods: Eligible patients had previously untreated stage IIIB or IV NSCLC suitable for cisplatin-based chemotherapy.

Compartment reconstruction for De Quervain's disease.

A new surgical treatment for De Quervain's disease is presented, in which the anatomy and function of the first dorsal compartment is preserved. Our findings in 11 wrists in ten patients revealed complete relief of the pre-operative symptoms in all instances. The advantages of this technique are its ease, its restoration of normal anatomy, and the prevention of tendon prolapse.

The Littler line method and the area under a Gaussian curve: a new method of assessing digital range of motion.

A new method of measuring digital range of motion (the Littler line method) is presented. When a Gaussian curve is centered over the Littler line and the appropriate area under the curve is computed, this area can provide a measure of the functional range of motion regained by an injured digit. Seventeen children (24 digits) with flexor tendon injuries were evaluated at an average follow-up period of 58 months (range, 12-121 months).

Distal scaphoid resection arthroplasty for the treatment of degenerative arthritis secondary to scaphoid nonunion.

Nineteen patients with chronic scaphoid nonunion and associated degenerative arthritis between the distal fragment and the radial styloid were treated by resection of the distal fragment. All patients had a dorsal intercalated segment instability wrist collapse pattern with an average radiolunate angle of -32 degrees and a 10% reduction in the carpal height, both of which changed minimally during the follow-up period. The duration of the nonunion averaged 12 years and the follow-up period averaged 49 months.

Sexual health for people with learning disabilities.

This article is based on work into the sexual health needs of people with learning disabilities, carried out by a working group of the RCN Family Planning Forum. Literature searches were conducted, and local initiatives, specialist services and information sources for training and education for clients and staff were identified. The authors' aim in this article is to increase awareness among those involved in the care of people with learning disabilities and those providing family planning and sexual health services, so that these services are appropriate, accessible and sensitive to the needs of this vulnerable client group.

Non-uniform dwell times in line source high dose rate brachytherapy: physical and radiobiological considerations.

The ability to vary source dwell times in high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy allows for the use of non-uniform dwell times along a line source. This may have advantages in the radical treatment of tumours depending on individual tumour geometry. This study investigates the potential improvements in local tumour control relative to adjacent normal tissue isoeffects when intratumour source dwell times are increased along the central portion of a line source (technique A) in radiotherapy schedules which include a relatively small component of HDR brachytherapy.

An analysis of medical workload--evidence of patient to specialist mismatch.

The National Health Service has employed physicians since its inception, yet 46 years later there are few data on the day-to-day work done by physicians. This paper describes the case mix of general medicine in one region using data for general medical admissions to one specialty (respiratory medicine) as a working example. The pattern of general medical inpatient admissions is consistent across the 10 districts in the Mersey region: 26% have a respiratory diagnosis, 22% cardiac, and 15% gastrointestinal.

Ligament replacement for chronic instability of the ulnar collateral ligament of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb.

Static and dynamic procedures have been described for reconstruction of chronic instability of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint. This study presents a technique of ligament replacement utilizing a free tendon graft passed through two gouge tracks in the proximal phalanx and one in the metacarpal in a manner that closely approximates normal anatomy. We retrospectively reviewed 26 patients who underwent replacement.
