Radiation Induced Enhancement of Hydrogen Influence on Luminescent Properties of nc-Si/SiO Structures.

Using photo-luminescence, infrared spectroscopy, and electron spin resonance technique, the silicon dioxide films with embedded silicon nanocrystals (nc-Si/SiO structures) have been investigated after γ-irradiation with the dose 2 × 10 rad and subsequent annealing at 450 °C in hydrogen ambient. For the first time, it was shown that such a radiation-thermal treatment results in significant increase of the luminescence intensity, in a red shift of the photoluminescence spectra, and in disappearance of the electron-spin resonance signal related to silicon broken bonds. This effect has been explained by passivation of silicon broken bonds at the nc-Si-SiO interface with hydrogen and by generation of new luminescence centers, these centers being created at elevated temperatures due to transformation of radiation-induced defects.

[Densitometric parameters in the presence of risk factors and complications of osteoporosis].

The paper deals with the densitometric study of 3000 persons due to 21 to 85 years. It presents the major common risk factors of osteoporosis and osteopenia and the indices of bone mineral density in relation to age, risk factors, and a history of bone fractures. Groups of the examinees were formed according to the history and densitometric data.

[Arrest of the painful syndrome by moradol and nubain in patients with ischemic heart disease].

Moradol was used for analgesia in 154 patients with unstable angina pectoris and small- and large-focal myocardial infarction and noubain in 69 patients aged 46 to 83. Moradol was found to be an effective analgesic for patients with acute myocardial infarction, exerting a hyperdynamic effect on the circulation, which was easily eliminated if the drug was combined with droperidol or relanium. Noubain is also effective in myocardial infarction, but exerts no hyperdynamic effect on the circulation.

[Neurophysiologic analysis of the effects of the centrally acting analgesics moradol, tramal and nubain].

The analysis of measurements of early and late components of somatosensory (SSEP) and visual evoked potentials (VEP) in healthy examinees was used to compare the central mechanisms responsible for the analgesic action of moradol, tramal, and nubain. As compared to tramal and nubain, moradol was found to cause a more profound increase in the amplitude of early SSEP components. With this, all three agents were equal in suppressing the amplitude of late SSEP and VEP components.

[Treatment of fractures of long bones associated with extensive skin avulsion].

The work analyses the experience in the treatment of 46 patients with fractures of long tubular bones and extensive wounds with avulsion of the skin at the department of emergency traumatology from 1983 to 1988. The method of choice in the treatment of fractures of the long tubular bones in this category of patients is functionally-stable osteosynthesis mainly with external fixation apparatuses on a nail or rod basis. A rational succession of the manipulations for surgical debridement of the extensive wound was determined, which made the surgeon's work much easier and reduced the time needed for the operation.

[The use of aviation transport in providing medical care to the victims in an earthquake focus].

2584 wounded were evacuated by helicopters during Armenian earthquake, December, 1988--that was 20% of all hospital cases. But, practically, the possibilities of aviation in Spitak and Leninakan regions were far more extensive. The more effective employment of air transportation for evacuation could be attained by the following measures: organization of a sole command and action coordination between medical service, air command and rescue teams, preliminary rescue planning, efficient organization of triage and evacuation of wounded, special training of medical staff in air evacuation.

[Aviation support of measures for rendering medical care to the victims of natural disasters, accidents and catastrophes].

The unpredictable character of natural calamities and technological accidents makes some specific demands on the organization and planning of the wide range complex of social measures to abolish their awful and tragic consequences. Analysing and summarizing the reviews and reports of international congresses on the emergency and catastrophic medicine and their own experience, the authors accentuate attention on the advantages and capabilities of aerial transport in delivering of medical personnel, all necessary equipment to the zones of mass sanitary losses and its really essential role in rapid aeromedical evacuation of injured. The authors scrutinize in details the structural scheme of organization of patient's search-and-rescue work and suggest, that main principles of planning and management of search-and-rescue operations in aviation could be applied in a decision of problems, which arise in medical assistance to the victims of the natural disasters and accidents.

[Effect of different interferon preparations on the synthesis of cellular DNA].

The relationship between the age of interferon producers and the capacity of interferon to inhibit DNA synthesis in L929 cells was demonstrated on interferon models produced by fibroblast cultures from newborn and adult mice in the presence of blood sera of hemologous ages. Inhibition of DNA synthesis by both types of interferon partially purified with the use of porous glass and having similar antiviral activity depended both on the dose of the preparation and on the time of cell incubation with it. Under equal conditions, the interferon produced by newborn mouse cells inhibited DNA synthesis 1.

[Cytotoxic action of the interferons produced by the cells of newborn and sexually mature animals].

The results of investigations produced in newborn and adult animals revealed age-related differences in the activity of lactate dehydrogenase and its isoenzyme fractions. An increase in the total lactate dehydrogenase activity was observed in both cases, the maximum activity being achieved on the third day of observation. Besides, after the introduction of interferon from newborn animals an increase in the activity of fraction LDH-2 was observed, while the introduction of interferon from adult animals produced an increase in the activity of fraction LDH-5.

[Hemodynamic reactions to positive intrathoracic pressure in + Gz overload].

[Interferons produced by L929 cells in the presence of sera from newborn and adult mice].

Antiviral activity and molecular mass of interferons, produced by L929 cells in mixtures containing blood sera from newborn and adult mice, were studied. L929 cells secreted distinctly lower amount of interferon in presence of the newborn mice blood serum as compared with the preparations containing adult mice blood serum. The decrease in the antiviral activity was shown to depend on alteration in the ratio of two molecular components constituting interferon: at the same time, the component with molecular mass of 28 kD was markedly decreased.

[Nuclear RNA polymerase activity of L929 cells producing interferon in the presence of sera from adult and newborn mice].

A study was made of the kinetics of interferon production and nuclear RNA-polymerase activities of L929 cells producing interferon in the presence of serum from adult and newborn mice. It was shown that RNA-polymerase activities of the nuclei were similar in both the cases. The results indicate that the low level of interferon production in the presence of newborn mouse serum is not determined by alterations in transcription.

[Interferons produced by the cells of newborn mice in the presence of sera from newborn and adult animals].

Fibroblasts of newborn mice produced far less amount of interferon in the presence of sera from newborn animals than in the presence of sera from adult animals. The interferons obtained were purified by adsorption chromatography on porous glass and were analyzed by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel. It has been shown that antiviral activity of interferon preparations obtained in the presence of sera from newborn mice was associated with the fraction of 45 Kd.
