[COVID-19 crisis management during the first three waves in a large dialysis organisation: Feedback from NephroCare France].

At the start of the COVID crisis, NephroCare operated 40 dialysis units in 7 regions, with 2,740 hemodialysis patients. The national COVID-19 crisis team implemented early the necessary measures to ensure the safety of dialysis patients and caregivers in the context of the pandemic. These measures were mostly traditional, but some were specific to our organization.

Impact of First Wave COVID-19 Crisis on Dialysis Parameters of COVID-Free Hemodialysis Patients: A NephoCare France Longitudinal Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients are at high risk of severe COVID-19 with a high risk of death. The organization of dialysis units to treat chronic HD patients with COVID-19 is demanding to prevent virus transmission both in COVID-free patients and the staff. These constraints may have an impact on the dialysis delivery to COVID-free HD patients.

Acute Kidney Injury in Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock in Patients with and without Diabetes Mellitus: A Multicenter Study.

Introduction: Whether diabetes mellitus increases the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) during sepsis is controversial.

Materials And Methods: We used a case-control design to compare the frequency of AKI, use of renal replacement therapy (RRT), and renal recovery in patients who had severe sepsis or septic shock with or without diabetes. The data were from the Outcomerea prospective multicenter database, in which 12 French ICUs enrolled patients admitted between January 1997 and June 2009.

Renal function can improve at any stage of chronic kidney disease.

Introduction: Even though renal function decline is considered relentless in chronic kidney disease (CKD), improvement has been shown in patients with hypertensive nephropathy. Whether this can occur in any type of nephropathy and at any stage is unknown as are the features of patients who improve.

Methods: We identified 406 patients in the NephroTest cohort with glomerular filtration rates (mGFR) measured by (51)Cr-EDTA clearance at least 3 times during at least 2 years of follow-up.

Renin inhibition reverses renal disease in transgenic mice by shifting the balance between profibrotic and antifibrotic agents.

Aliskiren, a direct renin inhibitor, is a novel antihypertensive drug. To study whether aliskiren can reverse chronic kidney disease, we administered it to renin transgenic mice, a strain characterized by elevated blood pressure and a slow decline of renal function, mimicking well the progression of hypertensive chronic kidney disease. Ten-month-old transgenic mice were treated either with aliskiren or placebo for 28 days.
