Background: Trauma is the main cause of death among people aged 5 to 44 years.

Aim: To describe features, treatment and evolution of trauma patients admitted to an emergency room.

Material And Methods: Adult patients admitted in the emergency department of a public hospital due to severe trauma were studied and followed during their hospital stay.

Ultrasound Assessment of Psoriatic Onychopathy: A Cross-sectional Study Comparing Psoriatic Onychopathy with Onychomycosis.

This cross-sectional study evaluated the usefulness of an ultrasound technique in assessment of nail changes in 35 patients with psoriatic onychopathy and 25 with nail dystrophy secondary to onychomycosis. All patients underwent 3 examinations: a complete clinical assessment; a nail ultrasound study; and fungal culture. Nails of patients with psoriatic onychopathy presented a thinner nail plate and nail bed, measured by ultrasound, than did those with onychomycosis.

Dose reduction of biological treatment in patients with axial spondyloarthritis in clinical remission: Are there any differences between patients who relapsed and to those who remained in low disease activity?

The aim of the study was to assess whether dose reduction of biological treatment in patients with axial spondyloarthritis in sustained remission could be effective to maintain remission or low disease activity at 1 year and to explore baseline differences between patients who remained in remission or low disease activity and patients who relapsed. This was a prospective, observational study. All consecutive patients with axial spondyloarthritis in sustained remission were included and received low doses of anti-TNF-α according to a dose reduction protocol.

Sacroiliitis associated with axial spondyloarthropathy: new concepts and latest trends.

The sacroiliac joints are involved in most cases of axial spondyloarthropathy, the first manifestation usually being sacroiliitis. A finding of sacroiliitis at radiography is the classic diagnostic hallmark of axial spondyloarthropathy. However, radiographic changes reflect structural damage rather than active inflammation, which may delay the diagnosis by several years.

Repair of erosions in patients with rheumatoid arthritis treated with etanercept: magnetic resonance imaging findings after 1 year of follow-up.

Method: The study population comprised 29 RA patients [biologic-naïve, 28-joint Disease Activity Score (DAS28) ≥ 3.2] starting etanercept combination therapy with disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and completing the 1-year study period with the same treatment.

Objective: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease which may has joint impairment. Often, SLE patients complain of hand and wrist arthralgia (HA). Usually, these patients do not show any swelling in the physical exam.

Deletion of LCE3C and LCE3B is a susceptibility factor for psoriatic arthritis: a study in Spanish and Italian populations and meta-analysis.

Objective: The LCE3C_LCE3B-del variant is associated with psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Its role in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is unclear, however, as shown by 3 recent studies with contradictory results. In order to investigate whether LCE3C_LCE3B-del constitutes a risk factor for PsA susceptibility, we first tested this variant in patients with PsA from Spanish and Italian populations and then performed a meta-analysis including the previous case-control studies.

Rapid reduction in tenosynovitis of the wrist and fingers evaluated by MRI in patients with rheumatoid arthritis after treatment with etanercept.

Objective: To assess the efficacy of etanercept in reducing tenosynovitis evaluated by MRI of the hand (h-MRI) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) refractory to disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) after 6 weeks of treatment.

Methods: 31 patients with active RA defined by a disease activity score (DAS28) >3.2 and synovitis in the hands were randomised into two groups: 19 patients received 50 mg weekly subcutaneous etanercept added to previous DMARD treatment and 12 patients continued with previous DMARD therapy.

Noonan syndrome associated with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Noonan syndrome (NS) is a developmental disorder characterised mainly by cardiac defects and craniofacial dysmorphia. An association between NS and some autoimmune diseases, such as thyroiditis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), has been suggested. We report the case of a 28-year-old man with a diagnosis of NS and autoimmune hypothyroidism who developed symptoms and immunologic features of SLE.

[Efficacy of gabapentin in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome].

Background And Objective: To evaluate the analgesic efficacy and safety of gabapentin in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), as well as the electromyographic (EMG) evolution after 6 months.

Patients And Method: A prospective study with a 6-month follow-up of patients with EMG diagnosis of primary CTS starting treatment with 1.800 mg/day of gabapentin.
