Patient's Preference for Same-Day Discharge or Hospitalization After Bariatric Surgery.

Purpose: Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery protocols have proven to be effective in reducing complication rates and length of stay. Guidelines do not include a recommendation on the length of hospital stay whereas same-day discharge is currently widely investigated on safety and feasibility. However, none of these studies takes patient preferences into account.

Norepinephrine Contributes to Enterocyte Damage in Septic Shock Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Objectives: In septic patients, both systemic inflammation and splanchnic hypoperfusion may cause enterocyte damage. Catecholamines may exert additional detrimental effects on mesenteric blood flow in these patients, and thereby contribute to this damage. Enterocyte damage itself results in impairment of gut barrier function and consequent translocation of bacteria/toxins.

A randomised trial on the effect of anti-platelet therapy on the systemic inflammatory response in human endotoxaemia.

The use of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) is associated with improved outcome in patients with sepsis, and P2Y inhibitors have been suggested to also have immunomodulatory effects. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of clinically relevant combinations of antiplatelet therapy on the immune response in experimental endotoxaemia in humans in vivo. Forty healthy subjects were randomised to seven days of placebo, placebo with ASA, ticagrelor and ASA, or clopidogrel and ASA treatment.
