Buprenorphine has demonstrated benefit for acute and chronic pain and various psychiatric disorders. However, many studies evaluating buprenorphine's effect on psychiatric conditions are not specific to the chronic pain population. Falls pose a significant threat to older adults, resulting in injuries and mortality. Concurrently prescribed opioids and gabapentin for pain management may increase fall risks in older patients. This study aimed to estimate fall risks associated with the concurrent use of gabapentin and opioids, comparing them to opioid monotherapy in older adults.

The objective of this study was to understand the effect buprenorphine rotations have on respiratory risk and other safety outcomes. This was a retrospective observational study evaluating Veterans who underwent an opioid rotation from full-agonist opioids to buprenorphine products or to alternative opioids. The primary endpoint was change in the Risk Index for Overdose or Serious Opioid-induced Respiratory Depression (RIOSORD) score from baseline to six months post-rotation.

The aim of this review is to highlight advances in the field of palliative care pharmacy and the integral role pharmacists have on the palliative care team. We conclude that despite participating on multidisciplinary palliative care teams for over 20 years, pharmacy still lacks a board certification in palliative care.
