Background: Parental perceptions of staining due to silver diamine fluoride (SDF) could affect its utilization in paediatric dentistry. This study represents the second part of a wider project focused on SDF esthetic acceptability among Italian parents.

Aim: To evaluate parental acceptance of SDF staining in Italy and to assess whether the parent's level of acceptance depends on location, child's behavior, or demographic background.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study assessed the effects of a specific prevention program on clinical hygiene, patient cooperation, and dental habits of 100 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) over time.
  • - Results showed significant improvements in plaque and gingival indices, as well as in tooth brushing frequency after five visits, while snack frequency and overall dental decay did not show significant changes.
  • - The program also notably enhanced patient cooperation, suggesting that tailored digital tools can effectively help children with ASD become more comfortable in dental settings.

Restorative procedures for caries affecting primary molars are a daily challenge for pediatric dentistry, and one of the main factors influencing the results of these restorative procedures is the choice of dental material used: bioactive materials were recently introduced, combining the strength of composites and the benefits of glass ionomers. The present study's objective is to clinically evaluate the aesthetic, functional and biological properties of Activa™ Bioactive composite in approximal and occlusal carious lesions for 1 year using the FDI criteria for evaluating direct dental restorations. Forty-five children with occlusal or approximal caries in first or second primary molars were included in the study: the cavities were then randomized to be restored with either Activa BioActive or SDR Bulk-fill and evaluated over time according to Federation Dentaire Internationale (FDI) criteria.

Background And Overview: Severely molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH)-affected teeth are prone to develop early posteruptive enamel breakdown (PEB) and caries. A novel conservative interim approach for the prevention of this complication is presented.

Case Description: A 6-year-old boy with strong hypersensitivity and extensive brown opacities in the partially erupted mandibular permanent first molars (PFMs) was diagnosed with MIH.

OSA pediatric subjects suffer from episodes of upper airway obstruction that can be partial or complete, with atypical sleep patterns and blood-gas level alteration. If poor treated and/or diagnosed, it can cause cardiovascular disease, learning difficulties, behavioural issues, and retardation of growth. In the literature, there are conflicting evidence about OSA assessment and treatment in pediatric age, so the aim of this paper is to highlight the multidisciplinary approach in the management of sleep disorders, stressing the role of the pediatric dentist in both diagnosing and treating the OSAS in children, according to the current evidence of the treatment options effectiveness of the syndrome itself.

Aerosol production represents a major concern during the majority of dental procedures. The aim of the present study is to investigate the dynamics of aerosol particles after 15 min of continuous supragingival ultrasonic instrumentation with no attempt of containment through particle count analysis. Eight volunteers were treated with supragingival ultrasonic instrumentation of the anterior buccal region.

Literature reviews are crucial in the choice of the best personalized material type and restauration type in restorative dentistry. We developed an IBM-Watson based system to support literature search for restorative dentistry, and compared its results to a literature search performed by a trained professional. We found that our system could assist the researcher in performing a literature review, but the grounding semantic model needs to be refined in order to provide more extensive results.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a tailored treatment dental program in adolescents in combination with a professional oral hygiene.

Methods: Ninety-three adolescents (43 males and 50 females; mean age: 14±1.1 years) were included in this study and Plaque Index (PI) and simplified basic periodontal examination (BPE) were measured for each patient at T0 (screening) and at T1 (after 30 days).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess clinical defects and potential causes of Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) in children by comparing those with and without the condition.
  • A total of 120 children participated, 60 with MIH and 60 without, and the analysis revealed varying degrees of defects, with the majority being moderate in molars and mild in incisors.
  • Significant links were found between the occurrence of MIH and factors such as ear, nose, and throat disorders, as well as antibiotic use during pregnancy.
