A variety of surgical and nonsurgical management options for small renal masses (SRMs) now exist. Surgery in the form of partial nephrectomy (PN) has three different approaches. It is unclear which PN approach, if any, offers superior clinical outcomes.

Purpose: Urological service provision has changed dramatically with the advent of the SARS-CoV-2, necessitating restructuring and reorganization. The aim of this study was to review the reorganization of our unit, map the change in volume of departmental activities and discuss potential solutions.

Introduction: Modification of antibiotic prophylaxis prior to transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUSPB) based on pre-procedure rectal culture results is effective for prevention of infection from fluoroquinolone (FQ)-resistant and extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) Escherichia coli strains. This has several implications for service delivery and cost. Our aim was to audit sepsis rates after introduction of ESBL screening and to identify risk factors for FQ resistance in ESBL strains and factors for sepsis risk.

The utility of stent on strings in clinical practice.

Introduction: Various types of ureteric stents are used in the management of ureteric stones. Stents on strings (SOS) are an attractive option as they may be removed without the need for instrumentation. There is some hesitation using SOS due to perceived complications and the risk of premature dislodgement.

The transobturator suburethral sling: a safe and effective option for all degrees of post prostatectomy urinary incontinence.

Introduction: Male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after radical prostatectomy (RP) is common. The surgical standard of care traditionally has been placement of an artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) but since its introduction the transobturator male sling has been shown to have particular unique advantages. Our aim was to assess outcomes of a consecutive series of suburethral sling insertions in men presenting with all degrees of post RP SUI.

Disseminated fungaemia secondary to Candida albicans is associated with considerable mortality and therefore merits aggressive treatment. Diagnostic investigations for urosepsis and disseminated fungaemaia secondary to Candida albicans include positive urine and blood cultures.

Despite the increasing prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED), there is reluctance among symptomatic patients to present to healthcare providers for appropriate advice and treatment. A number of Internet campaigns have been launched by the Irish healthcare media since 2007 aiming to provide easily accessible advice on ED. Novel online technologies appear to provide a useful tool for educating the general public on the symptoms of ED because there has been a significant increase in overall Internet search activity for this term since 2007.

Introduction: In the event of the implementation of prostate cancer screening, younger men will be diagnosed more frequently. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a frequent long-term complication in men post-radical prostatectomy (RP). Since the introduction of RP, urologists have strived to improve postoperative sexual function.

A case of epididymal sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory condition that primarily affects the lungs, lymphatic system and skin. Extra thoracic manifestations occur in about 50% of cases; however, it rarely affects the male reproductive tract. The first documented case of epididymal and testicular sarcoid in the Irish literature is of a 25-year-old male who presented with a painful 1-cm extra-testicular scrotal mass.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 3% all of solid organ tumours and is slightly more common in men in the age range of 60 to 70 years. Skin metastases occur in 3% to 6% of RCCs. There are only approximately 30 cases of scalp metastases secondary to RCC in the literature.
