Oral Health Status of Hospitalized Patients With Type 2 Diabetes.

Background: Diabetes is associated with poor oral health, as well as reduced access to dental care. A large percentage of patients hospitalized in the United States carry a diagnosis of diabetes; however, the oral health status of patients with diabetes who are hospitalized is unknown.

Methods: All patients meeting inclusion criteria on the general medicine service of a tertiary care hospital were invited to participate.

Physician Assistant Student Perceptions of an Interprofessional, Peer-to-Peer Oral Health Curriculum Led by Dental Students.

Purpose: Physician assistants (PA) are health care team members who often work in primary care. Providing oral health education to PAs during training could improve oral health for vulnerable patients who seek treatment in the primary care setting and who are less able to access dental care. The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a peer-to-peer oral health curriculum taught by dental students to their PA student colleagues.

Expanding collaborative boundaries in nursing education and practice: The nurse practitioner-dentist model for primary care.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and implementation of a novel interprofessional collaborative practice education program for nurse practitioner and dental students, the Nurse Practitioner-Dentist Model for Primary Care (NPD Program). The NPD Program expands collaborative boundaries in advanced practice nursing by integrating primary care within an academic dental practice. The dental practice is located in a large, urban city in the Northeast United States and provides comprehensive dental services to vulnerable and underserved patients across the age spectrum.

Are panoramic radiographs predictive of temporomandibular joint synovitis in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis?

Purpose: To identify specific panoramic radiographic findings associated with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) synovitis in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective study of children with JIA evaluated at Boston Children's Hospital. Patients were included if they had a confirmed diagnosis of JIA, a panoramic radiograph, and a contemporaneous TMJ magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) study with contrast.

Myofibromas of the jaws in children.

Purpose: Controversy exists as to the most appropriate treatment strategy for myofibromas of the jaws: en bloc resection versus enucleation. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the treatment outcomes in children with these uncommon benign tumors.
