Introduction: Exposure of healthcare workers to hazardous drugs may result in adverse health effects underscoring the importance of validating working procedures and safety precautions to minimise the risk. The objective was to monitor environmental contamination caused by the hazardous drug workflow: from drug vials, compounding process, to patient administration.

Background: Proteinase-activated receptor 2 (PAR-2) is a G-protein coupled receptor associated with many inflammatory diseases, including asthma. We have shown an association between PAR-2 expression in peripheral blood monocytes and asthma severity as well as blood PAR-2 mRNA level and lung function. Since F2RL1 (the gene encoding PAR-2) polymorphisms affect PAR-2 expression, we hypothesize they may affect asthma severity.

When tiles decorated to lower their symmetry are joined together, they can form aperiodic and labyrinthine patterns. Such Truchet tilings offer an efficient mechanism of visual data storage related to that used in barcodes and QR codes. We show that the crystalline metal-organic framework [OZn][1,3-benzenedicarboxylate] (TRUMOF-1) is an atomic-scale realization of a complex three-dimensional Truchet tiling.

We examine the impacts of a sanitation program designed to eliminate open defecation in at-scale randomized field experiments in four countries: India, Indonesia, Mali, and Tanzania. The programs - all variants of the widely-used Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach - increase village private sanitation coverage in all four locations by 7-39 percentage points. We use the experimentally-induced variation in access to sanitation to identify the causal relationship between village sanitation coverage and child height.

Background: CRTh2 is G protein coupled receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD) expressed by immune cells that drive type 2 inflammation such as CD4 T cells (Th2), eosinophils and group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) as well as structural cells including smooth muscle and epithelium. CRTh2-expressing cells are increased in the blood and airways of asthmatics and severe asthma is characterized by increased activity of the PGD-CRTh2 pathway. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs533116 G > A is associated with development of asthma and increased Th2 cell differentiation.

Background: Myeloid cells, especially dendritic cells and macrophages, play important roles in asthma pathophysiology. Monocytes (Mo) and macrophages express protease-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2), a proinflammatory serine protease receptor implicated in the pathophysiology of allergic airway inflammation. We have revealed that patients with severe asthma and those with a history of frequent asthma exacerbations exhibit increased PAR-2 expression on peripheral blood monocytes.

Poor sanitation and its consequent negative health outcomes continue to plague the developing world. Drawing on the finding that financial subsidies have changed behaviour in other health contexts, we conducted a clustered randomised trial in 160 villages in Lao PDR to evaluate the effectiveness of combining financial incentives with Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), a widely-conducted behaviour change program. Villages were randomly allocated to four groups, all of which received CLTS but differed in the type of subsidy offered (none, household, village or both).

Introduction: This systematic review appraises the measurement quality of tools which assess activity and/or participation in adults with upper limb spasticity arising from neurological impairment, including methodological quality of the psychometric studies. Differences in the measurement quality of the tools for adults with a neurological impairment, but without upper limb spasticity, is also presented.

Methods: 29 measurement tools identified in a published review were appraised in this systematic review.

Close to 100 million Indonesians lack access to improved sanitation, while 33 million live without improved drinking water. Indonesia is home to the second largest number of open defecators in the world, behind India. Repeated exposure to fecal pathogens, especially common in areas where open defecation is practiced, can cause poor absorption and nutrient loss through diarrhea and poor gut function, leading to undernutrition, growth stunting and irreversible impairment of health, development, learning and earnings - the effects of which outlast a lifetime.

Purpose: Psychological stress shifts the immune system toward the production of T-helper (Th)-2-mediated cytokines and eosinophilia, increases the risks for both asthma and depression, and can precipitate asthma exacerbations. Th2-mediated inflammation is a characteristic of allergic asthma. We have shown that the levels of CD4 Th2 cells in the peripheral blood of patients with asthma are associated with severity and/or control of the disease.

At any given time, the ovary contains a number of follicles in distinct growth stages, each with a set of identifying characteristics. Although follicle counting and staging using histological stains on paraffin-embedded ovary sections has been the gold standard in assessing ovarian health in fertility studies, the final counts rely on extrapolation factors that diverge greatly among studies. These methods also limit our ability to investigate spatial aspects of ovary organization.
