Background: Nationally, COVID-19 spurred the uptake of telehealth to facilitate patients' access to medical care, especially among individuals living in geographically isolated areas. Despite the potential benefits of telehealth to address health care access barriers and enhance health outcomes, there are still disparities in the accessibility and utilization of telehealth services. Hence, identifying facilitators and barriers to telehealth should be prioritized to ensure that disparities are mitigated rather than exacerbated.

Immersive virtual reality in the treatment of auditory hallucinations: A PRISMA scoping review.

Background: A large group of psychiatric patients suffer from auditory hallucinations (AH) despite relevant treatment regimens. In mental health populations, AH tend to be verbal (AVH) and the content critical or abusive. Trials employing immersive virtual reality (VR) to treat mental health disorders are emerging.

Introduction: The environment at a psychiatric inpatient ward can lead to emotional distress and behavioural deviations in vulnerable individuals potentially resulting in conflicts, increased use of need-based medication and coercive actions, along with low satisfaction with treatment. To accommodate these challenges, recreational and entertaining interventions are recommended. The tested interventions have, however, shown varying effects and demand a high degree of planning and staff involvement while being difficult to adapt to individual needs.

Background: Delayed medical care may result in adverse health outcomes and increased cost. Our purpose was to identify factors associated with delayed medical care in a primarily rural state.

Methods: Using a stratified random sample of 5,300 Nebraska households, we conducted a cross-sectional mailed survey with online response option (27 October 2020 to 8 March 2021) in English and Spanish.

Evidence-based practices in developing and maintaining clinical nurse preceptors: An integrative review.

Objectives: This integrative review of literature explores the best practice for establishing and maintaining a hospital-based nurse preceptor program. The intent is to provide nurse leadership and educators with guidance for optimizing preceptor programs in order to improve patient, staff, and organizational outcomes.

Design: The project team conducted an integrative review of literature to inform best practice using the Johns Hopkins Evidence-Based Practice Model and Guidelines.

Developing courses and teaching online requires instructors to rethink the educational paradigms they have relied upon in the past.

Multiple Myeloma: Cast Nephropathy, VTE, and Neurologic Complications.

Multiple myeloma accounts for approximately 1% of neoplastic diseases and 13% of hematologic cancers. Complications often associated with MM include neurologic and hematologic issues, infections, renal insufficiency, and bone involvement. It is crucial for advanced practice professionals caring for myeloma patients to assess patients accurately, be keenly aware of possible associated complications, and be familiar with appropriate interventions to prevent further injury.

Email reminders as a self-management tool in depression: a needs assessment to determine patients' interests and preferences.

We conducted a needs assessment to ascertain patients' interests and preferences for using email reminders ('E-minders') to assist in the self-management of their depression. The E-minders would help patients achieve remission by reminding them of their personal strategies for self-management and their personalized sources of support. Once patients had achieved remission, E-minders would be used to remind them of their original symptoms of depression so that they could monitor for recurrence.

Gastrointestinal side effects associated with novel therapies in patients with multiple myeloma: consensus statement of the IMF Nurse Leadership Board.

The novel immunomodulatory drugs lenalidomide and thalidomide and the novel proteasome inhibitor bortezomib can cause gastrointestinal side effects, including constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, which can have a deleterious effect on quality of life and interfere with optimal therapy. The International Myeloma Foundation's Nurse Leadership Board developed this consensus statement for the management of gastrointestinal side effects associated with novel therapies to be used by healthcare providers in any medical setting. It includes grading criteria and general recommendations for assessing and managing the side effects.

Nurses play an essential role in managing the care of patients with multiple myeloma, who require education and support to receive and adhere to optimal therapy. The International Myeloma Foundation created a Nurse Leadership Board comprised of oncology nurses from leading cancer centers and community practices. An assessment survey identified the need for specific recommendations for managing key side effects of novel antimyeloma agents.
