Breed-Specific Vertebral Heart Scale for the Dachshund.

The objectives of this study were to determine a breed-specific vertebral heart scale (VHS) range for the dachshund and compare results to the established reference range of 9.7 ± 0.5, calculate inter-observer variability, and correlate VHS with echocardiography.

Missouri Community, Public Health, and Primary Care Linkage: 2011-2012 Pilot Project Results & Evaluation.

This pilot project worked to establish linkages among community-based organizations, health care providers, and public health systems. The partnerships were created to help ensure identification, referral, and follow-up for community members with uncontrolled high blood pressure or pre-hypertension to lay the groundwork for sustainable referral and health education support systems in rural communities. The evaluation shows the project helped some participants control their blood pressure and change their blood pressure management behaviors.

Imaging diagnosis-bilateral orthotopic ureteroceles in a dog.

A 5-year-old neutered male Akita had a 5-month history of hematuria. Bilateral orthotopic ureteroceles were diagnosed using a combination of sonography, computed tomography (CT), and radiography. With CT excretory urography, the ureteroceles appeared as two intraluminal cystic structures in the vesicoureteral region of the urinary bladder, which directly communicated with dilated ureters.

Coil embolization of an aorticopulmonary fistula in a dog.

An 8-year-old, castrated male Basset Hound was evaluated for congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation. Echocardiography and angiography demonstrated a left-to-right shunting aorticopulmonary fistula. Coil embolization of the fistula was initially successful in reducing the volume of blood flow through the vascular network.

Acanthomatous ameloblastoma of the maxilla of an adult alpaca.

An adult alpaca presented with a large maxillary swelling. Facial trauma or a tooth root abscess was suspected. Radiographically there was a large expansile lesion displacing the right maxillary teeth.
