Objective: Our objective was to use diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to compare white matter microstructure in adolescents with D-transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA) who underwent the arterial switch operation in early infancy with typically developing control adolescents. We also examined correlates between patient demographic and medical risk factors and white matter as assessed by regional fractional anisotropy (FA) values.

Methods: We used with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to study 49 adolescents with D-TGA and 29 control adolescents.

Background: In some studies, tight glycemic control with insulin improved outcomes in adults undergoing cardiac surgery, but these benefits are unproven in critically ill children at risk for hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. Critically ill pediatric patients frequently receive prolonged analgesia and sedation to provide pain relief and facilitate intensive care therapies. Objective: Perioperative stroke and periventricular leukomalacia have been reported to occur commonly in infants with congenital heart disease. We aimed to determine the incidence and type of brain injury in infants undergoing 2-ventricle repair in infancy and to determine risk factors associated with such injury.

Methods: Forty-eight infants enrolled in a trial comparing 2 different hematocrits during surgical repair of congenital heart disease underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging scans and neurodevelopmental testing at 1 year of age.

The carbamazepine: saccharin co-crystal (1) was studied in terms of a series of attributes, including suitability for multi-gram scale-up, propensity for crystal polymorphism, physical stability, in vitro dissolution and oral bioavailability, with the goal of comparing 1 with the marketed form of carbamazepine (Tegretol). Preparation of 1 was achieved on a 30g scale with a conventional cooling crystallization process from alcohol solution without seeding. The compound is not overtly polymorphic.
