Background: Left ventricular (LV) reverse myocardial remodeling occurs following septal myectomy in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), but it remains unclear whether diffuse fibrosis is reversible during this period. Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) and indexed extracellular volume (iECV) are important surrogate markers of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. This study aimed to investigate whether diffuse myocardial fibrosis in HOCM can regress after myectomy.

Purpose To explore the role of cardiac MRI feature tracking (FT) and T1 mapping in predicting sustained ventricular arrhythmias (VA) in patients with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) and to investigate their possible incremental value beyond ARVC risk score. Materials and Methods The retrospective study analyzed 91 patients with ARVC (median age, 36 years [IQR, 27-50 years]; 60 male, 31 female) who underwent cardiac MRI examinations between November 2010 and March 2022. The primary end point was the first occurrence of sustained VA after cardiac MRI to first VA, with censoring of patients who were alive without VA at last follow-up.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates predictors of residual or recurrent tricuspid regurgitation (TR) in patients with Ebstein anomaly (EA) following cone reconstruction (CR), focusing on right ventricular longitudinal strain (RVGLS) measured by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR).
  • - It analyzed data from 48 EA patients who underwent CMR before CR, revealing that RVGLS was significantly worse in those with moderate or severe TR compared to those with mild TR.
  • - The results indicate that RVGLS can independently predict the occurrence of moderate or severe TR more than six months after CR, suggesting that assessing RV function early could identify at-risk patients.

Rationale And Objectives: This study aimed to assess the incremental diagnostic value of non-contrast T1 mapping-derived radiomics in patients with amyloid light-chain cardiac amyloidosis (AL-CA).

Methods: We retrospectively collected 86 patients with suspected AL-CA and 28 control patients who underwent cardiac MRI at 3.0 T in our institution, and the MRI data were divided into a training set and a test set.

Background: Pretransplant type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with increased cardiovascular and all-cause mortality after heart transplant (HT), but the underlying causes of this association remain unclear. The purpose of this research was to examine the impact of T2DM on left ventricular (LV) myocardial deformation and myocardial perfusion following heart transplantation using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging.

Methods: We investigated thirty-one HT recipients with pretransplant T2DM [HT(DM+)], thirty-four HT recipients without pretransplant T2DM [HT(DM-)] and thirty-six controls.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Saposhnikoviae Radix (SR) was initially documented in Shennong Bencao Jing classics for its properties in dispelling wind, dissolving surface, relieving pain, and alleviating spasms. This herb is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine to address conditions that affect the body's surface, by aiding in the expulsion of pathogens from the surface and alleviating pain associated with the immune response. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent allergic skin disorder, and the therapeutic effects of SR in dispelling wind and relieving the body's surface are consistent with the clinical symptoms commonly observed in AD.

Background: Cardiac diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) using second-order motion-compensated spin echo (M2C) can provide noninvasive in-vivo microstructural assessment, but limited by relatively low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Echo-planar imaging (EPI) with compressed sensitivity encoding (EPICS) could address these issues.

Purpose: To combine M2C DWI and EPCIS (M2C EPICS DWI), and compare image quality for M2C DWI.

Article Synopsis
  • Mammalian hibernation consists of torpor bouts followed by interbout arousals, impacting muscle activity and preventing atrophy.
  • During torpor, muscle performance declines, but improvements are seen during interbout arousal and post-hibernation.
  • The study found that muscle contractile properties and mitochondrial activity decreased during torpor, but both recovered during the interbout arousal and post-hibernation phases.

Disuse atrophy of skeletal muscle is associated with a severe imbalance in cellular Ca homeostasis and marked increase in nuclear apoptosis. Nuclear Ca is involved in the regulation of cellular Ca homeostasis. However, it remains unclear whether nuclear Ca levels change under skeletal muscle disuse conditions, and whether changes in nuclear Ca levels are associated with nuclear apoptosis.
