Objective: Visual release hallucinations are perceptual disturbances that occur in individuals who have experienced vision loss. Almost 50 million people worldwide are believed to experience visual release hallucinations, yet they are profoundly underdiagnosed. Although first described within the Charles Bonnet syndrome, the paradigm underlying this syndrome precludes their consideration in many populations, such as those with underlying psychiatric illness or dementia.

Volcanic Eruption in the Nanoworld: Efficient Oxygen Exchange at the Si/SnO Interface.

Here, a phenomenon of efficient oxygen exchange between a silicon surface and a thin layer of tin dioxide during chemical vapor deposition is presented, which leads to a unique Sn:SiO layer. Under thermodynamic conditions in the temperature range of 725-735 °C, the formation of nanostructures with volcano-like shapes in "active" and "dormant" states are observed. Extensive characterization techniques, such as electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, synchrotron radiation-based X-ray photoelectron, and X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectroscopy, are applied to study the formation.

Thermodynamically Guided Improvement of Fe-Mn-Al-Ni Shape-Memory Alloys.

A microstructural informed thermodynamic model is utilized to tailor the pseudoelastic performance of a series of Fe-Mn-Al-Ni shape-memory alloys. Following this approach, the influence of the stability and the amount of the B2-ordered precipitates on the stability of the austenitic state and the pseudoelastic response is revealed. This is assessed by a combination of complementary nanoindentation measurements and incremental-strain tests under compressive loading.

In this work, an attempt was made to improve the corrosion resistance of dilute Fe-Al alloys (1.0 mass% Al) by preheating treatment at 1073 K in H atmosphere. In comparison with pure Fe and unpreheated Fe-Al alloys, the resistance to oxidation at 673 K in pure O and to electrochemical corrosion in 5 wt.

Walking a mile in Grandma's shoes - medical students' evaluation of a very simple online aging game to enhance their understanding of older patients.

Background: Aging simulation games are established educational interventions to make older patients' perspectives noticeable, raise awareness about their needs, and positively influence attitudes toward older adults. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions imposed on education, we replaced a classroom-based aging simulation course with a simple online equivalent. This consisted of short introductory screencasts, four downloadable Portable Document Format (PDF) files containing issue-specific audio and video links, quizzes, case studies, and prompts for reflection.

Management and treatment of long COVID symptoms in general practices: An online-based survey.

Independent from initial severity, many patients develop persistent symptoms after infection with SARS-CoV-2, described as long COVID syndrome. Background: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is associated with modifiable atherosclerotic risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and smoking. However, the effect of risk factor control on outcomes and disparities in achieving control is less well understood.

Methods: All patients in an integrated, regional health system with PAD-related encounters, fee-for-service Medicare, and clinical risk factor control data were identified.

Background: Among the various factors identified as relevant for primary care career choice, financial considerations have been consistently shown to have an impact. In Germany, reliable and easily understandable information on physicians' earning opportunities in self-employed settings is difficult to obtain for medical students, leading to substantial misperceptions that may negatively affect respective career considerations. This study investigated medical students' evaluation of a 45-min evidence-based workshop on earning opportunities, workload and job satisfaction in different specialties and settings to examine its effect on the perceived attractiveness of working self-employed and working in general practice.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Avoidance of Health Care, Symptom Severity, and Mental Well-Being in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected regular health care for patients with chronic diseases. However, the impact of the pandemic on primary care for patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who are enrolled in a structured disease management program (DMP) in Germany is not clear. We investigated whether the pandemic affected primary care and health outcomes of DMP-CAD patients ( = 750) by using a questionnaire assessing patients' utilization of medical care, CAD symptoms, as well as health behavior and mental health since March 2020.

Thermodynamic description of metastable fcc/liquid phase equilibria and solidification kinetics in Al-Cu alloys.

The thermodynamic description of the fcc phase in the Al-Cu system has been revised, allowing for the prediction of metastable fcc/liquid phase equilibria to undercoolings of Δ = 421 K below the eutectic temperature. Hypoeutectic Al-Cu alloys that are prone to pronounced microsegregation were solidified containerlessly in electromagnetic levitation. Solidus and liquidus concentrations were experimentally determined from highly undercooled samples employing energy-dispersive X-ray analysis.

Modelling of liquid film migration in Al-Cu alloys.

Microstructural evolution in the presence of liquid film migration (LFM) is simulated for Al-Cu alloys using a cellular automaton (CA) model. Simulations are performed for the microstructural evolution and concentration distribution in an Al-4 wt.%Cu alloy with initially equiaxed grain structures holding in a temperature gradient.

To examine whether PwCI-reported occurrence of and PwCI-care partner agreement about ACP discussions are associated with completion of ADs. We conducted a secondary, cross-sectional analysis of data from 1672 PwCI-care partner dyads in the BLINDED study.
