Background: Humans experience functioning difficulties in daily life, which are dependent on the interaction between health conditions and barriers in life. In general, functioning is an umbrella term and a dynamic concept. Thus, identifying the factors associated with long-term functioning would be beneficial to the development of specific health policies and quality of life for people with disabilities.

Methods: One hundred adults with mild traumatic brain injury were analyzed. The Dizziness Handicap Inventory questionnaire was used for subjective evaluations.
Objectives: Stroke is a leading cause of death in Taiwan. Poor public knowledge of stroke may lead to delays in prehospital arrival, resulting in unfavorable prognoses. Studies have investigated public knowledge of stroke and highlighted the importance of stroke education, however, few such studies have been conducted in Taiwan.

We sought to evaluate the impact of discontinuing both hypertonic saline (HS) and dornase alfa (DA) versus continuing both therapies among a subgroup of participants in the SIMPLIFY study who sequentially participated in trials evaluating the independent clinical effects of discontinuing HS and DA. SIMPLIFY participants ≥12 years old on ETI and constituting a subgroup using both HS and DA at study entry were randomized to the HS or DA trial and then randomized 1:1 to continue or discontinue the applicable therapy for 6 weeks.

LAU-7b, a novel oral drug candidate, was shown to control inflammation and stabilize CFTR protein in the epithelial membrane during inflammatory stress in preclinical models of CF.
Methods: A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study was conducted to evaluate efficacy and safety of LAU-7b in adults with CF.
Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the effectiveness of transcranial direct current stimulation in knee osteoarthritis.
Methods: The study searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus databases until August 3, 2023, and identified randomized controlled trials evaluating the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation in knee osteoarthritis whose outcomes using pain scores or functional scales. The selected randomized controlled trials were subjected to meta-analysis and risk of bias assessment.
The evidence for the impact of renal dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and first cardiovascular diseases on mid-term adverse outcomes remain scarce. This study included the data of patients with DM having first atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) or congestive heart failure (CHF) from the Taipei Medical University Clinical Research Database. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to assess the impact of chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) on the 1-year mortality and recurrent ASCVD/CHF outcomes.

Its complete genome sequence revealed a 97% match with and uncovered gene clusters essential for plant-growth-promoting traits (PGPTs). These clusters include genes responsible for producing indole acetic acid (IAA), osmolytes, non-ribosomal peptides (NRPS), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), siderophores, lipopolysaccharides, hydrolytic enzymes, and spermidine.

This systematic review and network meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of different injection therapies in alleviating the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. Various databases were searched for relevant studies from inception until May 10, 2023.

Protein supplementation has been demonstrated to augment efficacy of resistance training (RT) in elderly. This study compared the relative effects of different protein supplements on muscle mass, strength, and mobility outcomes in middle-aged and older individuals undergoing RT.

Elexacaftor-tezacaftor-ivacaftor (ETI) remarkably improves lung disease but is associated with substantial weight gain.
Study Design And Methods: We performed a single-center longitudinal study predicting 6-month weight gain after ETI initiation.
Background: People with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) are frequently hospitalized for treatment of pulmonary exacerbation. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Pulmonary Guidelines support the use of intravenous aminoglycosides with therapeutic drug monitoring for the treatment of pulmonary exacerbation due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Serum intravenous tobramycin concentrations are commonly collected by peripheral venipuncture (PV).

Objective: To examine the feasibility and preliminary effects of a dyad-focused strategy training intervention.
Design: Single-arm trial with data collection at baseline, postintervention, and 3-mo follow-up.
Even when brain scans fail to detect a striate lesion, functional evidence for blindsight can be adduced. In the aftermath of an automobile accident, JK became blind. Results of ophthalmic exams indicated that the blindness must be cortical.

In a prospective multicenter study of randomly selected, clinically stable adolescents and adults, we assessed relationships between 24 inflammation-associated molecules and the future occurrence of CF pulmonary exacerbation using proportional hazards models. We explored relationships for potential confounding or mediation by clinical factors and assessed sensitivities to treatments including CF transmembrane regulator (CFTR) protein synthesis modulators.

This study examined cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey with whole-body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. The data included age, gender, DXA-assessed body composition, and physical functional activity with performing daily tasks by questionnaire.

The impairment of fine motor skills (FMSs) is correlated with the severity of functional disability (FD) cross-sectionally in people with PD (PwP). The present study investigated the decline in FMSs and the predictive value of baseline FMSs for the progression of FD.
