Background: Gastric cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the fourth most common cause of cancer death worldwide, yet the prognosis of advanced disease remains poor.

Methods: This was a randomized, double-blinded, phase 2 trial (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04908813).

Background: Roux-en-Y reconstruction is a common anastomosis technique during gastrectomy in gastric cancer. There is a lack of studies on gallstones after Roux-en-Y reconstruction gastrectomy. This study investigated the incidence and potential risk factors associated with gallstones after Roux-en-Y reconstructive gastrectomy in gastric cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • A recent study looked at whether having your gallbladder removed (cholecystectomy) might increase the chances of getting irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in people without any gut problems to start with.
  • They followed over 413,000 people for about 12.7 years and found that those who had their gallbladder removed were 46% more likely to develop IBS compared to those who didn't.
  • The study showed that the risk was higher for IBS that causes diarrhea compared to IBS that doesn't cause diarrhea, and these findings were consistent no matter the person’s age, sex, or other health factors.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify noninvasive biomarkers for gastric cancer (GC) using long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) microarray analysis in high-risk populations.
  • A total of 1206 differential lncRNAs were found, with 470 upregulated and 736 downregulated in GC cases compared to controls, highlighting significant candidates for further validation.
  • Among these, RP11-244 K5.6 was particularly noteworthy, showing an increased risk for GC in individuals with higher expression levels, suggesting its potential as a biomarker for early detection.

Article Synopsis
  • Different stages of gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC) development have unique sets of risk factors, highlighting the complexity of cancer progression.
  • Age, occupation (especially farming), low income, infection, alcohol consumption, hot food consumption, and previous gastritis or peptic ulcer history are linked to chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) development.
  • Progression from low-grade dysplasia (LGD) to GAC is influenced by age, male gender, and history of polyps, suggesting that targeting these risk factors earlier could help reduce GAC incidence.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the sixth most common cancer. China is one of the most frequent GC occurred countries, and Wuwei, Gansu, is one of the highest incidence area in China. Possible biomarkers of GC susceptibility and prognosis among the population in Wuwei are urgently needed.

Background: A lack of research on the association of trefoil factors (TFF) with gastric cancer and premalignant lesions (PML) in the general population is an important obstacle to the application of TFFs for gastric cancer screening. We aimed to analyze the association of TFFs with gastric cancer and PMLs in a general population.

Methods: We evaluated 3,986 adults residing in Wuwei, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Antibiotic resistance poses a significant challenge in China, affecting the treatment of infections, necessitating the need for personalized therapies using local data on resistance patterns.* -
  • A large multi-center study analyzed 4,242 bacterial strains from gastric biopsy samples across five regions, revealing high resistance rates, especially for clarithromycin, levofloxacin, and metronidazole.* -
  • Results showed good agreement between resistant phenotypes and genotypes for clarithromycin and levofloxacin, suggesting that genotype testing could be a viable alternative to traditional methods, while highlighting the importance of ongoing monitoring and personalized treatments.*

The persistent nature of the increased conductivity upon removal of incident illumination, described by the term persistent photoconductivity (PPC), in ZnO films is sensitive to their defect states. PPC can be viewed as a process of charge storage with relevant defects. To evaluate charge storage quantitatively, in this work, some thought-provoking characteristic quantities were derived from a photocurrent-time curve acquired by testing the photoelectric properties of ZnO under on and off UV illumination.

Background: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of celecoxib combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of gastric cancer.

Methods: In total, 240 gastric cancer patients undergoing radical gastrectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy were randomly assigned into 2 groups. In the experimental group (n = 120), patients were administered with celecoxib-based chemotherapy, and chemotherapy alone was performed in the control group.
