Under gas-liquid microextraction (GLME) operating conditions (extraction temperature 270 °C, extraction time 7 min, condensation temperature -2 °C, and carrier nitrogen gas speed 2.5 mL/min), ice cream samples, as a representative food, were pre-treated. The volatile aroma components of each sample was qualitatively analysed using GC-MS.

Article Synopsis
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the link between metabolic syndrome and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), analyzing 16 articles with data from nearly 4,000 COPD patients and over 25,000 controls.
  • Metabolic syndrome as a whole was found to increase the risk of COPD by 53%, with hypertension being a particularly influential component, raising the risk by 55%.
  • Factors like gender, race, source of controls, and sample size contributed to variations in study results.

Diabetes mellitus is frequently comorbid with hypertension, which is approximately twice as common as diabetes mellitus in China. We designed a case-control association study to inspect the susceptibility of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) gene 6 variants to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in 2199 patients with primary hypertension (1252 diabetic cases and 947 nondiabetic controls). The genotypes/alleles of -429T > C and 82Gly > Ser variants differed significantly between the two groups, and their associations with T2DM were significant after Bonferroni correction.

Primary adrenal myelolipoma is a rare, non-functioning adrenal benign tumor that is composed of mature adipose tissue and a variable amount of haemopoietic elements. Clinically, it is difficult to get diagnosed with adrenal myelolipoma because the patient usually doesn't have obvious symptoms and signs in early stage. In the present study, two cases of primary bilateral adrenal myelolipomas are reported.

Background And Objective: The gene encoding angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) has been implicated in the development of several malignancies. We aimed to meta-analyze the association of ACE gene insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism with digestive cancer risk and seek possible sources of between-study heterogeneity.

Methods: Two authors independently assessed eligibility of each retrieved publication and gathered relevant data.

Background: Balloon dilatation angioplasty is a minimally invasive surgery for treating benign ureteral stricture. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of placing double J (D-J) stents using high-pressure balloon angioplasty in treating benign ureteral stricture.

Methods: A total of 42 patients (48 cases) with benign ureteral stricture (42 had benign ureteral stricture) were investigated by inserting dual D-J stents using high-pressure balloon angioplasty.

Objective: To deepen the understanding of patients with complete necrosis of the ureter after renal transplantation for early diagnosis and treatment.

Methods: Of 5 patients with complete necrosis of the ureter after renal transplantatioin between January 1991 and April 2001 in our hospital, 4 were male and 1 was female (mean age, 35 years). Seven to 12 days after renal transplantation, native pyeloureterestomy was performed for 1 patient, and the remaining 4 patients received the cutting of the diatal necrosis ureter and vesicoureterostomy because of urine leakage.
