Mechanical small bowel obstruction is perhaps the most important pathology of the small bowel encountered in surgical practice. The most common etiologies are postoperative adhesions and external hernias. Congenital anomalies like patent omphalomesenteric duct (OMD) hardly make the list among adult patients.
