Background: Cancer surgery cancellation can have negative consequences for the patient, the surgeon and the health care system. There is a paucity of literature on cancer surgery cancellation and its association with wait times, perioperative outcomes, survival and costs of care. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the incidence of same-day cancer surgery cancellation in a universal health care context and its association with short and long-term outcomes.

Our benchmark model is a quadratic time trend model applied to the log of new cases for each country. We use our model to predict when the peak of the epidemic will arise in terms of new cases or new deaths in each country and the peak level.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 26 patients treated between 2004 and 2012. Twenty patients (77%) had base of skull involvement; 19 (73%) were treated for initial disease and 7 (27%) for recurrent disease.

Purpose: To report the results in patients reirradiated with proton therapy for recurrent or progressive chordoma, with or without salvage surgery.
Methods And Materials: A retrospective review of 16 consecutive patients treated from 2005 to 2012 was performed. All patients had received at least 1 prior course of radiation therapy to the same area, and all but 1 patient had at least 1 surgical resection for disease before receiving reirradiation.

Importance: Head and neck basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) has been considered a more aggressive variant of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with a poorer prognosis, although case-control studies have reached conflicting conclusions.
Objective: To examine the prognostic significance of head and neck BSCC on overall survival in a large population-based registry.
Design And Setting: Retrospective data review of a population-based registry from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.
Availability, reliability, and technical improvements have led to continued expansion of computed tomography (CT) imaging. During a CT scan, there is substantially more exposure to ionizing radiation than with conventional radiography. This has led to questions and critical conclusions about whether the continuous growth of CT scans should be subjected to review and potentially restraints or, at a minimum, closer investigation.
