Establishing a prognosis at hospital admission after stroke is a major challenge. Inflammatory processes, hemostasis, vascular injury, and tissue remodeling are all involved in the early response to stroke. This study analyzes whether 22 selected biomarkers, sampled at admission, predict clinical outcomes in 153 stroke patients treated by thrombolysis and mechanical endovascular treatment (MET).

Aims: Long-term oral anticoagulant (LTOAC) reduces ischaemic stroke recurrences. Because of bleeding history, frailty, cognitive impairment, comorbidities or patient refusal, many cannot be discharged from stroke unit on LTOAC. Proportion and outcome of these patients is not well known.

Article Synopsis
  • TIAregistry.org is a global study focusing on patients who experienced a transient ischemic attack or minor stroke, with a specific analysis on Japanese patients' data at 1-year follow-up.
  • The study found significant differences between Japanese and non-Japanese patients in terms of risk factors for stroke: Japanese patients had higher rates of current smoking and stroke risk, while non-Japanese patients were more likely to have conditions like hypertension and dyslipidemia.
  • Key predictors of recurrent stroke in Japanese patients were identified as having prior congestive heart failure and regular alcohol consumption, suggesting the need for tailored risk management strategies for this group.

Background and Purpose- Low ankle-brachial index (ABI) identifies a stroke subgroup with high risk of recurrent stroke, cardiovascular events, and death. However, limited data exist on the relationship between low ABI and stroke in low and middle-income countries. Therefore, we evaluated the prevalence of ABI ≤0.

Background: After a transient ischemic attack (TIA) or minor stroke, the long-term risk of stroke and other vascular events is not well known. In this follow-up to a report on 1-year outcomes from a registry of TIA clinics in 21 countries that enrolled 4789 patients with a TIA or minor ischemic stroke from 2009 through 2011, we examined the 5-year risk of stroke and vascular events.

Methods: We evaluated patients who had had a TIA or minor stroke within 7 days before enrollment in the registry.
