BACKGROUND Cardiocerebral vascular events (CVCs) are significant complications in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). Given the increased morbidity and mortality associated with CVCs in this population, understanding the factors influencing CVC occurrence over time is crucial. This study aimed to investigate these time-dependent factors in HD patients.

Objective: To investigate the enhancement of macrophage chemotaxis in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and its correlation with the disease severity.

Methods: Eighty patients with KOA admitted from July 2019 to June 2022 were enrolled as the observation group and divided into 29 cases of moderate group, 30 cases of severe group and 21 cases of extremely severe group. At the same time, 30 healthy subjects were included as the control group.

The topology of quantum systems has become a topic of great interest since the discovery of topological insulators. However, as a hallmark of the topological insulators, the spin Chern number has not yet been experimentally detected. The challenge to directly measure this topological invariant lies in the fact that this spin Chern number is defined based on artificially constructed wave functions.

We show that the gravitational phase space for the near-horizon region of a bifurcate, axisymmetric Killing horizon in any dimension admits a 2D conformal symmetry algebra with central charges proportional to the area. This extends the construction of Haco et. al.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored using magnetic nanoparticles with alternating magnetic fields to improve drug delivery through the skin, specifically for methotrexate.
  • Researchers created silk fibroin magnetic nanoparticles and assessed their properties before conducting in vitro tests comparing drug permeation with passive diffusion and different magnetic fields.
  • Results showed that alternating magnetic fields significantly enhance drug absorption in the skin, and when combined with stationary fields, create a massage-like effect that further improves drug delivery efficiency.

Influenza A viruses (IAV) are significant pathogens that result in millions of human infections and impose a substantial health and economic burdens worldwide. Due to the limited anti-influenza A therapeutics available and the emergence of drug resistant viral strains, it is imperative to develop potent anti-IAV agents with different mode of action. In this study, by applying a pseudovirus based screening approach, two super short membrane-active lipopeptides of C12-KKWK and C12-OOWO were identified as effective anti-IAV agents with IC50 value of 7.

A simple, low-cost and convenient method was developed for the synthesis of highly luminescent CdSe quantum dots (QDs) in an aqueous medium. Compared with previous methods, this synthesis was carried out in one pot using ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) to replace NaBH4 or N2H4·H2O as a reductant, and selenium dioxide to replace selenium or its other hazardous, expensive and unstable compounds as a precursor. The mechanism of CdSe QDs formation was elucidated.
