Thermal management using a vapor-liquid two-phase circulation system is challenging in compact and complex-shaped electronic devices. In this study, we design and fabricate a heat pipe that can adapt to various shapes, regardless of space constraints. The heat pipe is capable of bending or twisting in three dimensions, making it suitable for electronic devices of arbitrary shapes.

Due to the increased expression of iron storage proteins in cancer cells, utilizing the endogenous iron-catalyzed Fenton reaction for cancer ferroptosis therapy has recently emerged as a prominent research focus. However, endogenous iron primarily exists within ferroxidase FTH1 in the Fe (III)-bound state, hindering the effective catalysis of the Fenton reaction. Herein, an endogenous iron(II) self-enriched Fenton nanocatalyst (BAI@cLANCs) is fabricated by encapsulating the FTH1 inhibitor baicalin (BAI) in cross-linked lipoic acid nanocarriers (cLANCs) to amplify endogenous ferroptosis.

The proliferation of flexible pressure sensors has generated new demands for high-sensitivity and low-cost sensors. Here, we propose an elegant strategy to address this challenge by taking a ridge-mimicking, gradient-varying, spatially ordered microstructure as the sensing layer, with laser processing and interdigitated electrodes as the upper and lower electrode layers. Simultaneously, the entire structure is encapsulated with polyimide (PI) tape for protection, and the fabrication process is relatively feasible, facilitating easy scaling.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on creating low-cost, eco-friendly substrates for soilless cultivation using hydrochar composites made from spent grains and vermiculite.
  • The composites effectively retain nutrients and minimize nutrient loss, showing promising physical properties like lower bulk density and higher porosity.
  • Bok choy exhibited better growth on these substrates, suggesting that spent grains can serve as a sustainable alternative in soilless farming.

Objective: To construct a hierarchical management system for specialist nurses based on Patricia Benner's theory, and evaluate its implement effect, so as to provide reference for the hierarchical management of specialist nurses.

Methods: Literature retrieval, semi-structured interview and Delphi method were conducted for initially formulation of the draft of hierarchical management system for specialist nurses. Forty-three specialist nurses and 14 nursing managers were selected for the study, using a non-randomized controlled experimental study design, and at the end of the study, the job satisfaction, job engagement, job exuberance, advice behaviors and nursing managers' overall job satisfaction of specialist nurses were compared before and after the hierarchical management.

Microplastics pollution in agricultural soil is increasingly recognized, but the specific situation varies with geography, climate conditions, and farming practices. The karst landscape, a typical geomorphology in China, demands a deeper understanding of microplastics pollution in such areas. This research zeroes in on Guizhou, a province known for its karst formations, by collecting soil samples from the mulched cultivation layer in ten counties and cities.

Background: Calcium-free (Ca-free) solutions are theoretically the most ideal for regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) in continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). However, the majority of medical centers in China had to make a compromise of using commercially available calcium-containing (Ca-containing) solutions instead of Ca-free ones due to their scarcity. This study was designed to probe into the potential of Ca-containing solution as a secure and efficient substitution for Ca-free solutions.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the relationship between fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) levels and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), considering how overweight or obesity might influence this relationship.
  • Researchers measured FGF21 levels in early pregnancy among 332 women who developed GDM and 664 matched controls, using statistical analysis methods to evaluate associations and interactions with pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI).
  • Results showed that higher FGF21 levels were linked to increased GDM risk, especially in women with a pre-pregnancy BMI of 24 kg/m² or more, and the study highlighted the correlation of FGF21 with poorer glucose and lipid indicators.

Context: Chronic low-grade inflammation may play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, prospective studies on the relations of inflammatory blood cell parameters during pregnancy with GDM are lacking.

Objective: To prospectively investigate the associations of inflammatory blood cell parameters in both early and middle pregnancy, and their change patterns from early to middle pregnancy, with GDM risk.

Background: Liver plays an important role in maintaining glucose homeostasis. We aimed to examine the associations of liver enzymes and hepatic steatosis index (HSI, a reliable biomarker for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) in early pregnancy with subsequent GDM risk, as well as the potential mediation effects of lipid metabolites on the association between HSI and GDM.

Methods: In a birth cohort, liver enzymes were measured in early pregnancy (6-15 gestational weeks, mean 10) among 6,860 Chinese women.

Lung cancer with the highest mortality poses a great threat to human health. Ferroptosis therapy has recently been raised as a promising strategy for lung cancer treatment by boosting the reactive species (ROS) production and lipid peroxidation (LPO) accumulation intracellularly. However, the insufficient intracellular ROS level and the unsatisfactory drug accumulation in lung cancer lesions hamper the efficacy of ferroptosis therapy.

  • * Research indicates that ET enhances rice's defense by boosting levels of defense enzymes and chlorophyll, while also impacting the abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathway and activating a protein called OsCPK24.
  • * The study confirms that OsCPK24 plays a crucial role in rice's resistance to BLB, suggesting that further investigation into this protein could lead to new bactericide developments.

The aim of our study is to reveal the hub genes related to the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and their association with immune cell infiltration through bioinformatics analysis combined with experimental validation. In this study, through differential gene expression analysis, 1,516 upregulated and 1,307 downregulated DEG were obtained from dataset GSE136825 of the GEO database. We identified 14 co-expressed modules using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), among which the most significant positive and negative correlations were MEgreen and MEturquoise modules, containing 1,540 and 3,710 genes respectively.

Cilia are fundamental functional structures in natural biology. As the primary option of artificial cilia, magnetic cilia have been drawing extensive attention due to their excellent biocompatibility, sensitive response, and contactless actuation. However, most of the ordered magnetic cilia are fabricated by molds, suffering from high cost and low efficiency.

Chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CH) and -acetyl--amino-phenoltriptolide (APAP) are typical acentral dopamine receptor antagonists and antipyretic analgesics in clinical applications, respectively. However, it has been reported that these 2 drugs could cause liver damage. Lysophosphatidylcholines (LPCs) have multiple physiological functions and are metabolized primarily in the liver, where it undergoes significant changes when the liver is damaged.
