Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the clinical characteristics and sleep quality of 130 Parkinson's disease patients in Vietnam, finding that a staggering 90.9% suffered from sleep disorders, primarily insomnia and restless legs syndrome.
  • - Most patients reported experiencing these sleep issues after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, with many affected by multiple types of sleep disorders.
  • - Shoulder and neck pain was identified as a significant factor linked to sleep disturbances, suggesting that effective pain management could enhance sleep quality for these patients.

The desired performance of nucleic acid testing (NAT) may vary if used for disease diagnosis or for the evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of a treatment, although in most cases, the same assay is used. However, these tests may not be affordable in many situations including in low/middle income countries that in response have developed domestic assays. Given the example of HCV NAT among people who inject drugs in Vietnam, we aimed at evaluating a domestic assay versus an FDA- and CE-approved assay.

In 2021, pomelo (Citrus grandi) trees grown in Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho in northern Vietnam suffered from leaf yellowing, gummosis on stems, brown rot on fruit, and black rot on roots. Based on morphological and sequence analysis of the ITS and cox1 gene regions, the pathogen causing gummosis and root rot of citrus trees was identified as Phytophthora parvispora. Pathogenicity assays using mycelial plugs and zoospore suspension showed that P.

Aims: The objective of this study is to provide a reliable strategy for the diagnosis of sarcopenia based on a complementary combination of biomarkers from various approaches.

Material And Methods: A total of 30 C57BL/6J mice were used for the experiment, in which 15 young mice (YM) at 24 weeks old and 15 aged mice (AM) at 88 weeks old. Extracted features-based digital biomarkers from the electromyography activity of tibialis anterior muscles were evaluated by using receiver operating characteristic analysis.

People who inject drugs (PWID) are a population exposed to many genotoxicants and with a high prevalence of HCV infection. Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) regimens are now widely used to treat chronic HCV infection. Although side effects to treatment are currently rare, the long-term effects such as suspicions of de novo hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) occurrence or HCC recurrence and cardiac defects are still up for debate.

Article Synopsis
  • Antiviral nucleoside analogues (ANA) are used to treat hepatitis C virus (HCV), but they can harm mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), particularly affecting people who inject drugs (PWID) who may also be on HIV treatments.
  • A study involving 470 heroin users assessed mitochondrial health before and after direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment, finding increased mtDNA deletions post-treatment without changes in mitochondrial copy number per cell (MCN).
  • The research indicates that combining DAA with other drugs can exacerbate mtDNA damage, which may lead to issues like premature cell aging; therefore, long-term monitoring of affected individuals is needed.

Humans have two sets of teeth, deciduous teeth and permanent teeth. When primary teeth fall out, permanent teeth erupt to maintain the chewing function and jaw development. Shedding occurs with increasing level of mobility in primary teeth as a result of root resorption.
