IgA nephropathy is the most prevalent primary glomerulonephritis worldwide, with identical immunopathological characteristics caused by multiple etiologies as well as influenced by geographical and ethnical factors. To elucidate the role of immunologic and inflammatory mechanisms in the susceptibility to IgA nephropathy, we explored single nucleotide polymorphisms of related molecules in the immune pathways. We searched the PubMed database for studies that involved all gene variants of molecules in the 20 immunologic and inflammatory pathways selected from the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database.

The protocol provides straightforward and facile access to benzannulated [6,6]-spiroketals in moderate to good yields and excellent diastereoselectivities under balloon pressure of CO at room temperature.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLong non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) display multiple functions including regulation of neuronal injury. However, their impact in methamphetamine (METH)-induced neurotoxicity has rarely been reported. Here, using microarray analysis, we investigated the expression profiling of lncRNAs and mRNAs in primary cultured prefrontal cortical neurons after METH treatment.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFeto-fetal transfusion syndrome (FFTS) severely affects monochorionic (MC) multiple pregnancies and affects 1 in 1600 pregnancies overall. The number of increasing disputed obstetrics cases in China is related to unavailability of prompt diagnosis of FFTS. We present here a woman with a MC triplet pregnancy with intrauterine fetal death at 33 weeks of gestation due to FFTS.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of inhibition of calpain on retinal ganglion cell-5 (RGC-5) necroptosis following oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD). RGC-5 cells were cultured in Dulbecco's-modified essential medium and necroptosis was induced by 8-h OGD. PI staining and flow cytometry were performed to detect RGC-5 necrosis.

Unlabelled: Necroptosis, a programmed necrosis, is involved in various types of neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, we investigated whether necroptosis contributed to neuronal damage in a methamphetamine injury model.
Methods: Primary cultures of embryonic cortical neurons from Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to different doses of methamphetamine with/without pre-treatment with a specific necroptosis inhibitor, Necrostatin-1.
Decomposition is a complex process involving the interaction of both biotic and abiotic factors. Microbes play a critical role in the process of carrion decomposition. In this study, we analysed bacterial communities from live rats and rat remains decomposed under natural conditions, or excluding sarcosaphagous insect interference, in China using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of 16S rRNA gene amplicons.
