Herein, well-dispersed cobalt phosphide (CoP) electrocatalysts embedded in nitrogen-doped carbon (CoP@NC) were developed as an iodine host for zinc iodine batteries. Benefiting from the high electrical conductivity of the carbon matrix and the strong interaction as well as the efficient electrocatalytic activity of CoP with iodine species, the host achieved rapid iodine conversion while effectively suppressing the formation of polyiodides and zinc dendrites.

The performance of solid-state lithium-metal batteries (SSLMB) is often constrained by the low ionic conductivity, narrow electrochemical window, and insufficient mechanical strength of polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based electrolytes. Inspired by the soft-outside, rigid-inside structure of starfish, we designed multifunctional "starfish-type" composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) using electrospinning technology. These CPEs feature a three-dimensional rigid skeleton network composed of polyacrylonitrile/metal-organic frameworks/ionic liquids (PAN/MOFs/ILs), creating continuous and efficient Li transport channels: MOFs impart rigidity, PEO acts as a cushioning outer layer to enhance interfacial compatibility, and ILs reduce interfacial resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study developed a CT imaging grading system to assess the severity of upper urinary tract calculi related to kidney infections, using data from 126 patients.
  • - Patients with higher CT grades, particularly those with fever or diabetes, showed significant differences in clinical findings like white blood cell counts and other inflammatory markers.
  • - The research found that a higher CT grade significantly increased the risk of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), with a 4.472 times greater risk for each grade increase.

The rapid transport kinetics of divalent magnesium ions are crucial for achieving distinguished performance in aqueous magnesium-ion battery-based energy storage capacitors. However, the strong electrostatic interaction between Mg with double charges and the host material significantly restricts Mg diffusivity. In this study, a new composite material, EDA-MnO with double-energy storage mechanisms comprising an organic phase (ethylenediamine, EDA) and an inorganic phase (manganese sesquioxide) was successfully synthesized via an organic-inorganic coupling strategy.

Polyhalogenated dibenzo--dioxins/dibenzofurans (PXDD/Fs) are commonly released into the environment as byproducts of combustion processes, accompanied by flue gases. Chlorinated (Cl) and brominated (Br) precursors play crucial roles in forming PXDD/Fs. However, the specific contributions of Cl-precursors and Br-precursors to PXDD/Fs formation have not been fully elucidated.

A Gram-stain-positive, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming and non-motile bacterium, designated strain WY-16. Growth was observed at 20-42 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 6-9 (optimum, pH 7) and salinity of 0-3 % (w/v; optimum, 1 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on genome sequences indicated that WY-16 was affiliated to the family and most closely related to and .

The slow redox kinetics of lithium-sulfur batteries severely limit their application, and sulfur utilization can be effectively enhanced by designing different cathode sulfur host materials. Herein, we report the hollow porous nanofiber LaNiCoO as a bidirectional host material for lithium-sulfur batteries. After Co is substituted into LaNiO, oxygen vacancies are generated to enhance the material conductivity and enrich the active sites of the material, and the electrochemical reaction rate can be further accelerated by the synergistic catalytic ability of Ni and Co elements in the B-site of the active site of LaNiCoO.

Inflammation is a complex process that usually refers to the general response of the body to the harmful stimuli of various pathogens, tissue damage, or exogenous pollutants. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor that regulates cellular defense against oxidative damage and toxicity by expressing genes related to oxidative stress response and drug detoxification. In addition to its antioxidant properties, Nrf2 is involved in many other important physiological processes, including inflammation and metabolism.

Accumulating evidence has demonstrated a critical pathological role of oxysterol receptor GPR183 in various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, the currently reported GPR183 antagonists are very limited and not qualified for studies due to their inferior druglike properties. Herein, we conducted a structural elaboration focusing on improving its PK and safety profile based on a reference antagonist NIBR189.

We developed a material of activated carbon (AC)-supported highly active iron-based bimetal (iron-copper bimetal/AC, Fe-Cu/AC) with high efficiency for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation in soil by activating persulfate, benefiting from the synergistic effect that the characteristics of AC with porous carbon backbone, multiple active functional groups, high loading capacity and the characteristics of FeCu bimetal with high activity. The addition of Cu to the Fe-based/AC activator not only improved the dispersibility of Fe particles but also maintained the stability of the metal in the Fe-Cu/AC. The thermal activation (50 °C) promoted the degradation of PAHs by the Fe-Cu/AC-activated SO system.
