Background: Podocytes have limited proliferative capacity, which leads to irreversible glomerular injury in diverse kidney diseases. Magnesium isoglycyrrhizinate (MgIG), a hepatoprotective agent in clinic, has been reported to improve glomerular podocyte injury. However, the underlying mechanism of MgIG in ameliorating podocyte injury remains unclear.

Introduction: High fructose intake has been implicated as a risk factor for behavioral disorders, potentially through cell ferroptosis induction in the central nervous system. Neural stem cells (NSCs) are crucial for maintaining hippocampal neurogenesis to resist behavioral alterations. Gastrodin, derived from the traditional Chinese herb Gastrodia elata, has neuroprotective effect.

Although STAT3 has been reported as a negative regulator of type I interferon (IFN) signaling, the effects of pharmacologically inhibiting STAT3 on innate antiviral immunity are not well known. Capsaicin, approved for the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia and diabetic peripheral nerve pain, is an agonist of transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1), with additional recognized potencies in anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic diseases. We investigated the effects of capsaicin on viral replication and innate antiviral immune response and discovered that capsaicin dose-dependently inhibited the replication of VSV, EMCV, and H1N1.

Inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activation produces potent therapeutic effects in a wide array of inflammatory diseases. Bergapten (BeG), a furocoumarin phytohormone present in many herbal medicines and fruits, exibits anti-inflammatory activity. In this study we characterized the therapeutic potential of BeG against bacterial infection and inflammation-related disorders, and elucidated the underlying mechanisms.

Antidepressant fluoxetine can affect cerebral glucose metabolism in clinic, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, we examined the effect of fluoxetine on brain regional glucose metabolism in a rat model of depression induced by repeated corticosterone injection, and explored the molecular mechanism. Fluoxetine was found to recover the decrease of F-fluorodeoxyglucose (F-FDG) signal in prefrontal cortex (PFC), and increased 2-[-(7-Nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) amino]-2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-NBDG, a fluorescent glucose analog) uptake in an astrocyte-specific manner in cultured PFC slices from corticosterone-induced depressive rats, which were consistent with its improvement of animal depressive behaviors.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: In traditional Chinese medicine, a long term of improper diet causes the Dampness and disturbs Zang-Fu's functions including Kidney deficiency. Atractylodes lancea (Atr) and Magnolia officinalis (Mag) as a famous herb pair are commonly used to transform Dampness, with kidney protection.

Aim Of The Study: To explore how Atr and Mag protected against insulin signaling impairment in glomerular podocytes induced by high dietary fructose feeding, a major contributor for insulin resistance in glomerular podocyte dysfunction.

A superconducting nanowire single-photon imager (SNSPI) uses a time-multiplexing method to reduce the readout complexity. However, due to the serial connection, the nanowire should be uniform so that a common bias can set all segments of the nanowire to their maximum detection efficiency, which becomes more challenging as the scalability (i.e.

High fructose consumption is a significant risking factor for glomerular podocyte injury. However, the causes of high fructose-induced glomerular podocyte injury are still unclear. In this study, we reported a novel mechanism by which high fructose induced ferroptosis, a newly form of programmed cell death, in glomerular podocyte injury.

Paternal stress exposure-induced high corticosterone (CORT) levels may contribute to depression in offspring. Clinical studies disclose the association of depressive symptoms in fathers with their adolescent offspring. However, there is limited information regarding the intervention for intergenerational inheritance of depression.

High fructose has been reported to drive glomerular podocyte oxidative stress and then induce podocyte foot process effacement in vivo, which could be partly regarded as podocyte hypermotility in vitro. Atractylodin possesses anti-oxidative effect. The aim of this study was to explore whether atractylodin prevented against fructose-induced podocyte hypermotility via anti-oxidative property.

Background: Serum intact fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) levels are progressively increased in relation to the severity of kidney dysfunction. High serum intact FGF23 concentration is associated with the increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Clinically, phosphate binders are commonly used to reduce serum intact FGF23 levels in CKD patients by lowering serum phosphate levels.

Brain energetics disturbance is a hypothesized cause of depression. Glucose is the predominant fuel of brain energy metabolism; however, the cell-specific change of glucose metabolism and underlying molecular mechanism in depression remains unclear. In this study, we firstly applied F-FDG PET and observed brain glucose hypometabolism in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) of corticosterone-induced depression of rats.
