[Clinical observation on depression treated by electroacupuncture combined with western medicine].

Objective: To evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect of depression treated by acupuncture and electroacupuncture combined with western medicine.

Methods: Seventy-five patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. In control group, 30 cases were treated by SSRI with oral administration; in observation group 1, 25 cases were treated by acupuncture therapy combined with SSRI, and Shenting (GV 24), Baihui (GV 20), Dazhui (GV 14), Shendao (GV 11) and Zhiyang (GV 9) etc.

[An experimental study of endothelial progenitor cells on bone formation in tissue-engineered bone in dogs].

Purpose: To observe the effects of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) on bone formation of tissue engineered bone in dogs.

Methods: Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) and EPCs were derived from dog bone marrow and cultured in different medium in vitro. They were seeded on demineralized bone matrix (DBM) to build tissue engineered bone, then the construct was implanted into the fasciae of latissimus dorsi muscle, the degree of bone formation was analyzed with imaging and histological methods at different time points.

[Characteristics and superiorities of acupuncture medicine].

Four characteristics and five major superiorities of traditional Chinese acupuncture was expounded in this article. The four characteristics are (1) theoretical characteristic which focuses on meridians, acupoints, circulation of qi and blood; (2) effect mechanism of disease prevention and treatment based on external stimulation and internal regulation; (3) clinical diagnosis with the combination of differentiation of syndromes according to meridians and collaterals, zang-fu organs, eight principles and diagnosis based on acupoints; (4) technical characteristic of adoption of unique apparatus and special manipulations. The five superiorities are (1) diagnosis: simple, rapid and accurate; (2) technique: easy to study and manipulate; (3) therapeutic effect: quick and obvious effect, extensive indications; (4) safety: non-toxic and less side-effects; (5) cost: comparatively cheap.

Splenectomy for an adult patient with refractory secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Treatment regimens of secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH) are complicated and individualized. CHOP regimen is well known for the treatment of adult sHLH, but it was not so effective for the 56-year-old male patient in our study. Splenomegaly, one of clinical manifestations of HLH, has urged us to investigate the role of splenectomy in HLH patients.

[Randomized controlled study on chronic functional constipation treated with grain-shaped moxibustion and acupuncture].

Objective: To compare the therapeutic effect differences of chronic functional constipation treated with the combined therapy of grain-shaped moxibustion and acupuncture and simple acupuncture therapy.

[Relationship between efficacy of electroacupuncture and electroacupuncture stimulation of different acupoints and different tissue layers of acupoint area in hypotension plus bradycardia rats].

Transmission resonances of compound metallic gratings with two subwavelength slits in each period.

Based on the finite-difference time-domain method, we investigate the transmission resonances of compound metallic gratings with two subwavelength slits filled with different dielectrics inside each period in the visible and near infrared regions. The results show that the transmission spectrum is almost a compound of that of two corresponding simple gratings expect for the transmission feature at a certain resonant wavelength, where the Fabry-Pérot (FP)-like phenomena have been found both inside the two slits, but the orders of the FP-like modes are different. If the order of the FP-like mode inside one slit is one bigger than inside the other, the intensity of the transmission will be significantly weakened.

[Theoretical study on warming and dredging function of moxibustion].

To illustrate the theoretical basis of warming and dredging function of moxibustion from the treatment features, indications and effects. The causation of moxibustion is warming stimulation, and the mechanism of action is dredging meridians and collaterals. In a word, promoting the dredging function by warming is the main mechanism of therapeutic effect of moxibustion.

[Effects of different time parameters on hypercholesterolemia treated with mild moxibustion].

Objective: To probe into the relevance between the parameters of mild moxibustion (persistent time, interval time, treatment session) and the efficacy, as well as the optimum treatment program of mild moxibustion in hypercholesterolemia.

[Clinical analysis of 10 cases of secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis treated with HLH-2004 chemotherapy].

This study was aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of HLH-2004 chemotherapy in patients with secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH). 10 cases of sHLH treated with HLH-2004 regimen at our department were analyzed retrospectively. The results showed that 7 patients had clinical response to HLH-2004 regimen, while other 3 patients had no clinical response.

[A mechanism of endogenous opioid peptides for rapid onset of acupuncture effect in treatment of depression].

Clinical and experimental studies show that the onset of effect of acupuncture on depression is more rapid than selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, a class of antidepressants. Calcyclin-binding protein (CacyBP) is a tumor suppressor in gastric and renal cell carcinoma, but an oncogene in pancreatic cancer. Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is characterized by the progressive deterioration of intellectual/cognitive function following surgery. It has been suggested that the senile brain, which characteristically expresses higher levels of central proinflammatory cytokines, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, is more susceptible to additional insult following surgery. The authors of this study investigated the expression of central cytokines IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α and hippocampal glial cell activation in aged and adult rats following partial hepatectomy.

Adjustable phase resonances in a compound metallic grating with perpendicular cuts.

We propose a compound metallic grating with perpendicular cuts in each slit and investigate its optical transmission property theoretically. The odd and even waveguide modes exhibit different behaviors when the cuts are set asymmetrically in the slits. Particularly, it is shown that the transmission dips of transmission spectrum for this compound periodic structure can be realized alternately by shifting the position of cuts in the slit.

Influence of electro-acupuncture on the side effects of fluoxetine on depression patients.

The authors set up two groups, the treatment group and the control group, to observe the influence of electro-acupuncture on the side effects produced by fluoxetine in the treatment of depression. It is indicated that there are several problems existed in acupuncture researche at present, such as the scale and the input of the acupuncture theory research are not enough, the basic research and clinical application is disjointed, the correlation between the acupoints and viscera need more systematic and further researches, the design level of clinical research on acupoints' main indications should be improved.

Study on the fluorescence characteristics of carbon dots.

Herein, we prepared water-soluble fluorescent carbon dots with diameter about 1.5 nm from cheap commercial lampblack. These fluorescent carbon nanoparticles are stable toward photobleaching and stable in water for more than half a year without fluorescence decrease.
