The synthesis of methanol from CO hydrogenation is an effective measure to deal with global climate change and an important route for the chemical fixation of CO. In this work, carbon-confined MoSe (MoSe@C) catalysts were prepared by in situ pyrolysis using glucose as a carbon source. The physico-chemical properties and catalytic performance of CO hydrogenation to yield methanol were compared with MoSe and MoSe/C.

Hydrogenation of CO to form methanol utilizing green hydrogen is a promising route to realizing carbon neutrality. However, the development of catalyst with high activity and selectivity to methanol from the CO hydrogenation is still a challenge due to the chemical inertness of CO and its characteristics of multi-path conversion. Herein, a series of highly active carbon-confining molybdenum sulfide (MoS@C) catalysts were prepared by the in-situ pyrolysis method.

Three thioether bridged diimidazolium dibromides with different steric and electronic properties have been synthesized as precursors to carbene-based CSC pincer ligands. Palladation afforded CSC Pd(II) pincer complexes for bulky and electron rich ligand systems, whereas the least donating ligand led to the formation of a pseudo-pincer complex. All complexes have been fully characterized by multinuclei NMR spectroscopies, ESI mass spectrometry and X-ray diffraction analysis.
