Objective: To explore the optimal timing for placing an artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) postradiation therapy (RT).

Methods: A bi-institutional retrospective review of all patients who underwent their first (virgin) AUS placement after pelvic RT between January 1, 2011 and July 1, 2023. To determine the optimal timeline for device implantation 2-5years post-RT, we compared hazard ratios for device revision/explantation (Rev/Exp) using Kaplan-Meier curves for each year (earlier vs later than 2/3/4/5 years post-RT).

Purpose: To compare the lifespan of first transcorporal cuff (TC) placement of an artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) versus standard placement (SP) in patients with prior radiotherapy (RT) for prostate cancer (PCa).

Methods: We reviewed first (virgin) AUS placements from two high-volume care centers between 1/2011 and 1/2021, including PCa patients with RT history. AUS lifespan was assessed via the hazard ratio of device explantation and/or revision within a ten-year timeframe for the TC vs.

Objective: To identify factors influencing residency training program selection by women residents in urology and to evaluate the residents' gender-based experiences during training. Urology remains a disproportionately male-physician-dominated field. Understanding the needs and experiences of women residents is essential for developing strategies to recruit and retain more women urologists in independent practice.

Purpose: For muscle-invasive bladder cancer, bladder preserving chemoradiotherapy (BPCRT) has shown to be a viable alternative for patients with urothelial carcinoma (UCa). Traditionally bladder cancer with variant histology UCa or other tumors types involving the bladder have worse outcomes and BPCRT has been contraindicated. However, there is limited high level evidence for this recommendation.

Objective: To provide a framework for a virtual curriculum during the COVID-19 pandemic for medical student educators that introduces and teaches clinical concepts important in urology and surgical specialties in general.

Methods: We created a 1-week virtual urology course utilizing interactive lectures, case-based exercises, and faculty-proctored surgical video reviews. Students were assigned self-study modules and participated in case-based discussions and presentations on a topic of their choice.

Background: Water irrigant is discouraged in ureteroscopy due to risks demonstrated in more invasive endoscopic procedures. However, water is not well studied in ureteroscopy and may provide better visualization than standard saline.

Objective: To determine whether water irrigant increases the risk of hyponatremia compared with saline and provides better visualization in ureteroscopy.

Introduction: Erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence are well-known side effects of radical prostatectomy that, when refractory to medical therapy, can be addressed by major genitourinary prosthetic surgery (urethral slings, artificial urinary sphincters, penile prostheses). Although these procedures have been evaluated in single institution studies, population based analyses regarding their use have been sporadic. Thus, we characterized post-prostatectomy genitourinary prosthetic surgery in a contemporary, population based cohort of men with private insurance.

Mycobacterium ulcerans is the causative agent of Buruli ulcer, a severe necrotizing skin disease that causes significant morbidity in Africa and Australia. Person-to-person transmission of Buruli ulcer is rare. Throughout Africa and Australia infection is associated with residence near slow-moving or stagnant water bodies.
