Long-term sinonasal outcomes after endoscopic skull base surgery with nasoseptal flap reconstruction.

Objectives: The utilization of the nasoseptal flap (NSF) in endoscopic anterior skull base surgery (EASB) has resulted in reduced rates of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leak (CSF). The long-term impact on sinonasal function after surgery remains incompletely defined.

Methods: A consecutive series of patients undergoing EASB with NSF and with at least 3 years follow-up was prospectively evaluated.

The skull base is a complex bony and soft tissue interface that is divided anatomically into compartments. This article will focus specifically on the central skull base, which has a complex embryologic development and anatomy. Multiple entities from notochord remnants, neoplasm, infection, and other abnormalities may occur, and imaging is critical for depicting skull base pathology.

Respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartomas: An increasingly common diagnosis in the setting of nasal polyps.

Background: Respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartomas (REAH) are benign nose neoplasms found in the nasal cavity and sinuses. Symptoms include anosmia, nasal obstruction, facial pressure, and rhinorrhea. Although previously thought to be rare, these tumors are being increasingly recognized on pathology in patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery.
