Challenges and possibilities when doing research on active school travel interventions in a school setting - a non-randomized pilot study assessing feasibility of an evaluation design.

Background: A wide range of school interventions have been launched to increase childrens' physical activity. Evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions requires suitable study designs and feasible quantitative evaluations relating to the school setting. The purpose of this study was to assess the evaluation design and methods for data collection, in order to make decisions about approaching forthcoming studies of the effectiveness of active school travel (AST) interventions.

Redosing with Intralymphatic GAD-Alum in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes: The DIAGNODE-B Pilot Trial.

Immunotherapies aimed at preserving residual beta cell function in type 1 diabetes have been successful, although the effect has been limited, or raised safety concerns. Transient effects often observed may necessitate redosing to prolong the effect, although this is not always feasible or safe. Treatment with intralymphatic GAD-alum has been shown to be tolerable and safe in persons with type 1 diabetes and has shown significant efficacy to preserve C-peptide with associated clinical benefit in individuals with the human leukocyte antigen DR3DQ2 haplotype.

Adapting a pregnancy app (HealthyMoms) to support healthy habits in migrant women-a qualitative study on women's preferences and perceived needs to support health behaviors during pregnancy.

Background: Healthy lifestyle behaviors in pregnancy are important for maternal and offspring health. Mobile health (mHealth) tools have potential to provide support for lifestyle behaviors at scale but such tools are commonly developed only in native languages, limiting reach in migrant populations.

Objectives: This qualitative study, in two of the largest migrant populations in Sweden (Arabic- and Somali-speaking women), aimed to explore (a) perceptions and needs of knowledge and support related to pregnancy and lifestyle behaviors and (b) needs of and attitudes towards a pregnancy app and how features and content in the app can be adapted to support healthier lifestyle behaviors in migrant women.

City bus seat vibration analysis using 6-axis accelerometer and gyroscope sensors.

This paper analyses different modes and cycles of seat vibration in city buses by analysing acceleration peak magnitudes and their trends and fluctuations in the time domain. The purpose is to find peak vibration modes that exist in the driving patterns of city buses. Analysing peaks in a time series is essential for many applications specifically in vibration analysis because they represent significant events.

AlphaFold accelerated discovery of psychotropic agonists targeting the trace amine-associated receptor 1.

Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing protein structure prediction, providing unprecedented opportunities for drug design. To assess the potential impact on ligand discovery, we compared virtual screens using protein structures generated by the AlphaFold machine learning method and traditional homology modeling. More than 16 million compounds were docked to models of the trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1), a G protein-coupled receptor of unknown structure and target for treating neuropsychiatric disorders.

My Way to School Through a Camera Lens: Involving Children to Inform a Policy Recommendation on Active School Travel.

Active school travel (AST) is an effective approach for increasing children's physical activity and independent mobility, but policy supporting AST is lacking. This study aims to explore children's experiences of AST to inform a policy recommendation. Photovoice methodology with a qualitative approach was applied, with children taking pictures on their way to school.

Feasibility of utilizing gamified learning as a motivational strategy for promoting physical activity participation and healthy eating among college students.

Emerging adulthood is a developmental stage influenced by the regularity of healthy behaviors. Gamification is the motivational strategy using virtual rewards and social comparison. This study aimed to explore the feasibility and proof of concept of utilizing digital badges, leaderboards, and quests as gamified learning in a health course.

The Effects of Calorie Restriction and Bariatric Surgery on Circulating Proneurotensin Levels.

Context: Proneurotensin (pNT) is associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D), but the effects of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) on postprandial pNT levels are not well studied.

Objective: This work aimed to assess the effects of RYGB vs a very low-energy diet (VLED) on pNT levels in response to mixed-meal tests (MMTs), and long-term effects of RYGB on fasting pNT.

Methods: Cohort 1: Nine normoglycemic (NG) and 10 T2D patients underwent MMT before and after VLED, immediately post RYGB and 6 weeks post RYGB.

Characterizing the influence of cardiorespiratory fitness on left atrial size and function in the general population.

Increased left atrial (LA) size and reduced LA function have been associated with heart failure and atrial fibrillation (AF) in at-risk populations. However, atrial remodeling has also been associated with exercise training and the relationship between fitness, LA size, and function has not been defined across the fitness spectrum. In a cross-sectional study of 559 ostensibly healthy participants, comprising 304 males (mean age, 46 ± 20 yr) and 255 females (mean age, 47 ± 15 yr), we sought to define the relationship between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), LA size, and function.

Replication stress risks genomic integrity. Depending on the level, replication stress can lead to slower progression through S phase and entry into G2 phase with DNA damage. In G2 phase, cells either recover and eventually enter mitosis or permanently withdraw from the cell cycle.

Assisting the implementation of screening for type 1 diabetes by using artificial intelligence on publicly available data.

The type 1 diabetes community is coalescing around the benefits and advantages of early screening for disease risk. To be accepted by healthcare providers, regulatory authorities and payers, screening programmes need to show that the testing variables allow accurate risk prediction and that individualised risk-informed monitoring plans are established, as well as operational feasibility, cost-effectiveness and acceptance at population level. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to contribute to solving these issues, starting with the identification and stratification of at-risk individuals.

Children's active school transportation: an international scoping review of psychosocial factors.

Background: Over the last decades, the prevalence of AST has decreased significantly. Barriers to active school transport (AST) have been extensively examined in the literature, while psychosocial factors that facilitate AST have received less attention. To our best knowledge, there are currently no reviews on this subject.

GPR162 is a beta cell CART receptor.

Cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) is expressed in pancreatic islet cells and neuronal elements. We have previously established insulinotropic actions of CART in human and rodent islets. The receptor for CART in the pancreatic beta cells is unidentified.

RNA sequencing unravels novel L cell constituents and mechanisms of GLP-1 secretion in human gastric bypass-operated intestine.

Aims/hypothesis: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB) frequently results in remission of type 2 diabetes as well as exaggerated secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Here, we assessed RYGB-induced transcriptomic alterations in the small intestine and investigated how they were related to the regulation of GLP-1 production and secretion in vitro and in vivo.

Methods: Human jejunal samples taken perisurgically and 1 year post RYGB (n=13) were analysed by RNA-seq.

Nicotinamide Prevents Retinal Vascular Dropout in a Rat Model of Ocular Hypertension and Supports Ocular Blood Supply in Glaucoma Patients.

Purpose: To investigate whether nicotinamide (NAM) modulates retinal vasculature in glaucoma.

Methods: This was a prospective controlled clinical trial investigating animal and human histopathology. Participants included normotensive and ocular hypertensive rats, postmortem human ocular tissue, glaucoma patients (n = 90), and healthy controls (n = 30).

Personal pronouns and person perception - Do paired and nonbinary pronouns evoke a normative gender bias?

Research on gender-fair language aims to identify language inclusive to a multitude of individuals, for example, increasing the visibility of women by using paired pronouns (he/she) instead of generic masculine forms (he). However, binary presentations like he/she might come with unwanted side effects and evoke what we label as normative gender bias. A normative gender bias is defined as when words lead to stronger associations with individuals with normative gender expressions than with individuals with non-normative gender expressions, thus contributing to making non-normative individuals invisible.

Transfer of cetirizine/levocetirizine into human breast milk and estimation of drug exposure to infants through breastfeeding: A human lactation study from the ConcePTION project.

Data on drug transfer into human breast milk are sparse. This study aimed to quantify concentrations of cetirizine and levocetirizine in breast milk and to estimate drug exposure to infants. Breastfeeding women at least 8 weeks postpartum and using cetirizine or its pure (R)-enantiomer levocetirizine were eligible to participate.

User experiences of an app-based mHealth intervention (MINISTOP 2.0) integrated in Swedish primary child healthcare among Swedish-, Somali- and Arabic-speaking parents and child healthcare nurses: A qualitative study.

Background: Preventive and scalable interventions, accessible to all, to counteract childhood obesity are urgently needed. We have recently developed a novel, digital parental intervention (MINISTOP 2.0 app) available in Swedish, Somali, Arabic and English.

Metabolic remission precedes possible weight regain after gastric bypass surgery.

Objective: Some patients regain weight to a variable extent from 1 year after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB), though rarely reaching preoperative values. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether, when, and to what extent metabolic remission occurs.

Methods: Fasting metabolite and lipid profiles were determined in blood plasma collected from a nonrandomized intervention study involving 148 patients before RYGB and at 2, 12, and 60 months post RYGB.

Urinary tract infections trigger synucleinopathy via the innate immune response.

Symptoms in the urogenital organs are common in multiple system atrophy (MSA), also in the years preceding the MSA diagnosis. It is unknown how MSA is triggered and these observations in prodromal MSA led us to hypothesize that synucleinopathy could be triggered by infection of the genitourinary tract causing ɑ-synuclein (ɑSyn) to aggregate in peripheral nerves innervating these organs. As a first proof that peripheral infections could act as a trigger in MSA, this study focused on lower urinary tract infections (UTIs), given the relevance and high frequency of UTIs in prodromal MSA, although other types of infection might also be important triggers of MSA.

Children's intervention participation is associated with more positive beliefs towards active school transportation among parents.

Insufficient physical activity among children is a critical issue and health promoting initiatives are required to reverse this trend. In response to the current situation, a school-based intervention aiming to increase physical activity with the aid of active school transportation (AST) was implemented in one municipality in northern Sweden. By adopting the framework of the Theory of Planned Behavior, we aimed to analyse beliefs among parents whose children were or were not involved in the AST intervention.
