Preclinical methods are needed for screening potential Alzheimer's disease (AD) therapeutics that recapitulate phenotypes found in the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) stage or even before this stage of the disease. This would require a phenotypic system that reproduces cognitive deficits without significant neuronal cell death to mimic the clinical manifestations of AD during these stages. Long-term potentiation (LTP), which is a correlate of learning and memory, was induced in mature human iPSC-derived cortical neurons cultured on microelectrode arrays utilizing circuit patterns connecting two adjacent electrodes.

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) can support functional restoration of a paretic limb post-stroke. Hebbian plasticity depends on temporally coinciding pre- and post-synaptic activity. A tight temporal relationship between motor cortical (MC) activity associated with attempted movement and FES-generated visuo-proprioceptive feedback is hypothesized to enhance motor recovery.

The sequalae of periodontitis include irreversible degradation of tooth-supporting structures and circulatory spread of inflammatory mediators. However, the serum protein profile in periodontitis is not well described, which is partly attributable to the limited number of studies based on large and well-characterized periodontitis cohorts. This study aims to identify novel, circulating inflammation-related proteins associated with periodontitis within the PerioGene North case-control study, which includes 478 cases with severe periodontitis and 509 periodontally healthy controls.

Introduction: In Denmark, where human papillomavirus (HPV) -based cervical cancer screening is being implemented, the aim of this pilot implementation study was to test a specific screening algorithm, assess follow-up examination attendance, and measure the proportion of precancer lesions found in relation to the number of women referred for colposcopy.

Material And Methods: From May 2017 to December 2020, 36 417 women in the uptake area of the Department of Pathology, Vejle Hospital, Region of Southern Denmark, were included in the HPV group. Women positive for HPV16/18 irrespective of cytology and women positive for other high-risk HPV (hrHPV) types having concomitant abnormal cytology were referred directly to colposcopy.

Heat Shock Factor 1 (HSF1) is best known as the master transcriptional regulator of the heat-shock response (HSR), a conserved adaptive mechanism critical for protein homeostasis (proteostasis). Combining a genome-wide RNAi library with an HSR reporter, we identified Jumonji domain-containing protein 6 (JMJD6) as an essential mediator of HSF1 activity. In follow-up studies, we found that JMJD6 is itself a noncanonical transcriptional target of HSF1 which acts as a critical regulator of proteostasis.

Aim: To evaluate the protein profiles in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in relation to clinical outcomes after periodontal surgery and examine if any selected proteins affect the mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines in human gingival fibroblasts.

The bile salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL) was originally recognized as a lipolytic enzyme expressed by the exocrine pancreas and in some species, notably humans, the lactating mammary gland, being secreted into the duodenum and with the mother's milk, respectively. However, BSSL is also present in the blood and has been assigned additional functions, even beyond the gastrointestinal tract. Conventional BSSL knockout mice are protected from developing disease in animal models of arthritis, and antibodies directed towards BSSL prevent or mitigate disease in similar models.

Episodic ataxia type 1 and 2 (EA1 and EA2) are the most well-described of the episodic ataxias. Women living with HIV (WLWH) experience higher rates of both HPV infection and certain adverse pregnancy outcomes, yet there are no prior reviews of HPV infection during pregnancy in WLWH.

Using a retrospective cohort study, we assessed the hospitalization risk following infection with 7 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants.
