Ribozymes are small catalytic RNA sequences capable of nucleotide-specific self-cleavage found widespread in nature. Ribozyme cleavage generates distinct 2',3'-phosphate and 5'-hydroxyl termini that resemble substrates for recently characterized RNA repair pathways in cells. We report that ribozyme cleavage of two separate mRNAs activated their scarless trans-ligation and translation into full-length protein in eukaryotic cells, a process that we named StitchR (for Stitch RNA).

CCNU (1-[2-chloroethyl]-3-cyclohexyl-1-nitrosurea), lomustine, is an oral alkylating agent in the nitrosourea subgroup. The dose-limiting toxicity of CCNU is neutropenia most frequently documented 7 days after its administration. Use of prophylactic antimicrobials to prevent chemotherapy-related febrile neutropenia (FN) and its associated morbidity and mortality has been well-documented in human oncology, but this information is limited in the veterinary literature.

Hollow gold nanospheres (HGNs) have been used as the template for seed-mediated growth of multibranched hollow gold nanostars (HNS). The HGNs were synthesized via anerobic reduction of cobalt chloride to cobalt nanoparticles and then formation of a gold shell via galvanic replacement followed by the oxidation of the cobalt core. We obtained control of the inner core size of the HGNs by increasing the size of the sacrificial cobalt core and by varying the ratio of B(OH)/BH using boric acid rather than 48 h aged borohydride.

Background: This study aimed to determine the effects of a standard therapeutic cooling protocol using crushed ice on the elbow to explore if changes in the motor unit (MU) firing rates in the first dorsal interosseous (FDI) muscle are comparable to known changes in sensory and motor nerve conduction velocity (NCV) due to a regional temperature drop around a peripheral nerve.

Methods: Twelve healthy individuals were assessed before cooling, immediately after cooling, and 15 min of rewarming. Purpose: The mTOR pathway has been identified as a key nutrient signaling hub that participates in metastatic progression of high-grade osteosarcoma. Inhibition of mTOR signaling is biologically achievable with sirolimus, and might slow the outgrowth of distant metastases. In this study, pet dogs with appendicular osteosarcoma were leveraged as high-value biologic models for pediatric osteosarcoma, to assess mTOR inhibition as a therapeutic strategy for attenuating metastatic disease progression.
