The world's first full-scale, 280 nm UV LED reactor for wastewater disinfection was tested at flows of 545 and 817 m day. UV light emitting diode (LED) disinfection technologies have advanced over the last decade and expanded the design space for applications in point of use, industrial, and now full-scale water treatment. This literature review examines the progression of UV LED technologies from 2007 to 2023 using key features such as total optical power, price, and wall-plug efficiency. The review found that optical power is increasing while the price per Watt is decreasing; however, the wall plug energy (WPE) is slowly improving over the last decade.

Biofilms have been widely detected in water distribution and water storage systems posing potential risks to drinking water safety by harboring and shedding pathogens. Light-based disinfection methods, such as germicidal ultraviolet (UV) and antimicrobial blue light (aBL), could serve as non-chemical alternatives for biofilm control. Incorporation of dermoscopy and artificial intelligence (AI) is improving healthcare professionals' ability to diagnose melanoma earlier, but these algorithms often suffer from a "black box" issue, where decision-making processes are not transparent, limiting their utility for training healthcare providers. To address this, an automated approach for generating melanoma imaging biomarker cues (IBCs), which mimics the screening cues used by expert dermoscopists, was developed. This study created a one-minute learning environment where dermatologists adopted a sensory cue integration algorithm to combine a single IBC with a risk score built on many IBCs, then immediately tested their performance in differentiating melanoma from benign nevi.

Aims: In adult patients with transposition of the great arteries (dTGA) after arterial switch operation (ASO), the coronary artery circulation after neonatal surgical transfer remains a major culprit for long-term sequelae, including myocardial ischaemia and sudden cardiac death. As coronary imaging in paediatric age is often incomplete and classification mainly relies on the surgeon's description in the operation report, we intended to develop a systematic, understandable pattern of the coronary status for each young patient, combining unambiguous coding with non-invasive imaging.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a disease, which is difficult to diagnose at an early stage and for which there is a pressing need for more effective treatment options. The purpose of this study was to compare the molecular profile of HCM to that of ischaemic cardiomyopathy (ISCM) and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) for identification of protein and pathway targets that could support the development of better diagnostic and treatment options for HCM. Thermodilution methods to determine cardiac output (CO) may be affected by veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). We compared CO estimations by pulmonary arterial thermodilution using a pulmonary arterial catheter (CO PAC ), transpulmonary thermodilution (CO TPTD ), and three-dimensional echocardiography (3DEcho) (CO 3DEcho ) in 18 patients under veno-venous ECMO. Novel UV sources, which do not contain mercury, provide the opportunity for enhancement of current oxidation technologies through spectral optimization, minimizing inefficiencies that currently limit conventional technology. Wastewater reuse is the primary full-scale application of UV advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) in practice but any background absorbance and the low molar absorption by conventional radical promoters (hydrogen peroxide) have historically limited their system efficiency, resulting in the underutilization of photons in a reactor.
