Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-K) signalling pathway is a crucial path in cancer for cell survival and thus represents an intriguing target for new paediatric anti-cancer drugs. However, the unique clinical toxicities of targeting this pathway (resulting in hyperglycaemia) difficulties combining with chemotherapy, rarity of mutations in childhood tumours and concomitant mutations have resulted in major barriers to clinical translation of these inhibitors in treating both adults and children. Mutations in PIK3CA predict response to PI3-K inhibitors in adult cancers.

Background: Postpartum hypertension is a major contributor to the rising maternal mortality rates in the United States, with nearly half of maternal deaths occurring after delivery. Previous studies have found evidence that the maximum blood pressure reading during labor and delivery admission can predict readmission; however, the optimal blood pressure to reduce the need for readmissions and additional medical treatment in the postpartum period is not known.

This paper discusses a novel dynamic resonant wall shear stress sensor concept based on an oscillating sensor operating near resonance. The interaction between the oscillating sensor surface and the fluid above it is modelled using the unsteady laminar boundary layer equations. The numerical experiment shows that the effect of the oscillating shear stress is well correlated by the Hummer number, the ratio of the steady shear force caused by the outside flow to the oscillating viscous force created by the sensor motion.

A novel drug-protein binding measurement method based on high-performance frontal analysis and capillary electrophoresis (HPFA/CE) is presented. A single run measurement approach is proposed to circumvent utilization of a calibration curve that is often performed with HPFA.
