Addressing the Gaps in Post-Stroke Sexual Activity Rehabilitation: Patient Perspectives.

Sexual dysfunction is common but often under-recognised or neglected after stroke. This study sought to identify the existing methods for providing information and discussion on post-stroke sexual activity, and perceived gaps from the patient perspective. A sample of 1265 participants who had been admitted to any of the four major public hospitals in Tasmania, Australia, with stroke (International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) group B70) were mailed a survey assessing their experiences with, and opinions about, receipt of post-stroke sexual activity education.

Evaluating the effects of mindfulness-based interventions for informal palliative caregivers: A systematic literature review.

Background: There is a need to identify proactive, evidence-based interventions to support informal palliative caregivers. Mindfulness-based interventions, evidenced in the literature as providing physical and mental health benefits for diverse populations, may have application in the setting of palliative caregiving.

Aim: To describe, evaluate and synthesise the peer-reviewed literature on the effects of mindfulness-based interventions for informal palliative caregivers.

Realist review to inform development of the electronic advance care plan for the personally controlled electronic health record in Australia.

Introduction: Australia has invested heavily to introduce an opt-in personally controlled electronic healthcare record (PCEHR), which incorporates an element of advance care planning (ACP). A further investment of $10 million AUD has been made to increase capability to a fully integrated electronic ACP (eACP). Australia has an aging population, the majority of whom will live, be cared for, and die in the community.

Making a case for telehealth: measuring the carbon cost of health-related travel.

Background: Telehealth services are promoted to reduce the cost of travel for people living in rural areas. The previous Australian Government, through the national Digital Economy Strategy, invested heavily in telehealth service development, at the same time introducing a carbon pricing mechanism. In planning a range of new telehealth services to a rural community the authors sought to quantify the travel conducted by people from one rural area in Australia to access health care, and to calculate the associated carbon emissions.

The Cradle Coast personally controlled electronic health record evaluation research.

In 2010 the Federal Government announced funding over two years to create a Personally Controlled Electronic Health Record (PCEHR) for Australians. One of the wave 2 implementation sites is the Cradle Coast in Tasmania. A PCEHR Program Benefits and Evaluation Partner (BEP) has been appointed to undertake evaluation activities with the e-health lead implementation sites.
