The implementation of wireless continuous vital sign monitoring (CVSM) technologies changes daily care practices of healthcare professionals, which gives rise to unknown new roles and responsibilities. In this paper we present a study on how we combine the disciplines of medical informatics and ethics in the implementation of the Philips Healthdot, a smart patch for remote CVSM. The aim of this study is to investigate experiences and perspectives on the support levels and roles and responsibilities associated with the integration of smart patches, by conducting interviews with nurses.

To improve parents' experience in the pediatric emergency waiting room by means of an information tool, the information needs of parents and pediatric patients need to be determined. It is necessary to find an optimal design for the information needed to be understandable by and useful to the parents. This paper presents the first step of designing an information tool aiming to improve patient/parent experience, encourage the understanding of the care process, and optimize the patient-caregiver relationship.

Objective: To report underlying factors that hinder or advance mHealth implementation and use in Dutch dementia care.

Methods: 44 dementia experts (healthcare professionals, informal caregivers, dementia case managers, and researchers) completed a questionnaire as part of a wider Delphi study to share their experiences with, thoughts on, and proposals for mHealth use in Dutch dementia care. A SWOT-framework is used to categorize the experiences, thoughts and proposals.

Background: A complex process like the blood transfusion chain could benefit from modern technologies such as radio frequency identification (RFID). RFID could, for example, play an important role in generating logistic and temperature data of blood products, which are important in assessing the quality of the logistic process of blood transfusions and the product itself.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether location, time stamp, and temperature data generated in real time by an active RFID system containing temperature sensors attached to red blood cell (RBC) products can be used to assess the compliance of the management of RBCs to 4 intrahospital European and Dutch guidelines prescribing logistic and temperature constraints in an academic hospital setting.
