Solute Carrier Family 3, Member 2 (SLC3A2 or 4F2hc) is a multifunctional glycoprotein that mediates integrin-dependent signaling, acts as a trafficking chaperone for amino acid transporters, and is involved in polyamine transportation. We identified SLC3A2 as a potential Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK) interacting partner in a BioID-proximity labeling screen in neuroblastoma (NB) cells. In this work we show that endogenous SLC3A2 and ALK interact in NB cells and that this SLC3A2:ALK interaction was abrogated upon treatment with the ALK inhibitor lorlatinib.

Background: Bone fracture is one of the most globally prevalent injuries, with an estimated 189 million bone fractures occurring annually. Delayed union or nonunion occurs in up to 15% of fractures and involves the interruption or complete failure of bone continuity following fracture. Preclinical testing is essential to support the translation of novel strategies to promote improved fracture repair treatment, but there is a paucity of small animal models that recapitulate clinical attributes associated with delayed fracture healing.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its advanced subtype, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), have emerged as the most common chronic liver disease worldwide, yet there is no targeted pharmacotherapy presently available. This study aimed to investigate the possible in vivo function of STE20-type protein kinase MST4, which was earlier implicated in the regulation of hepatocellular lipotoxic milieu in vitro, in the control of the diet-induced impairment of systemic glucose and insulin homeostasis as well as MASLD susceptibility. Oncogenic receptor tyrosine kinases including anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) are implicated in numerous solid and hematologic cancers. ALK mutations are reported in an estimated 9% of neuroblastoma and recent reports indicate that the percentage of ALK-positive cases increases in the relapsed patient population. Initial clinical trial results have shown that it is difficult to inhibit growth of ALK positive neuroblastoma with crizotinib, motivating investigation of next generation ALK inhibitors with higher affinity for ALK.

Background: In the 1980s, a small research group began identifying variables affecting applicant success on the American Board of Surgery (ABS) Certifying Examination (CE). We now report success and trends as we complete 25 years. We had multiple challenges as identified through faculty focus groups and participant feedback that needed to be addressed: increase the national optics of the program, integrate new innovative experiences, maintain the integrity of the collected data on excel files, incorporate national trends in surgery, attract experienced clinical volunteer faculty and staff, security of capital, and schedule management.

Objectives: The following primary objectives of this study were to: (1) establish baselines of prevalence and causes of medical errors experienced by Iowans in medical settings, (2) determine whether Iowa patients were informed of the errors by the responsible healthcare providers, (3) understand reasons why Iowans who experienced medical errors did or did not report the errors, and (4) discover how Iowans view mandatory reporting of medical errors.

Methods: A total of 1010 Iowa adults took part in a telephone survey in summer 2017. Interviews were completed via random landlines and random digit dialing of cell phone numbers.
